St. Michael's Academy
 :

I can feel the tension building up in the eighth grade classrooms.  They're coming down the home stretch with their SchoolsNext projects.  It brings joy to my heart watching the students be so engaged in their project based learning!  Say a prayer for them as they finish up their projects and prepare to present to our panel of community judges on January 22nd.

As part of our Catholic Schools Week activities, our school kicked off our annual community service project. Once again this year, each grade level will be collecting different food and clothing items to donate to the Gray House.  For a listing of the suggested items, please click here. Please feel free to donate any item outside your child's requested grade level item. Every item is appreciated!

Enjoy a nice weekend.

Peace and God's blessings,

Ms. Ann E. Dougal
Principal

From the Classroom of Ms. Enderlin - PreK-4C

Busy In PreK4C

Down in PreK 4C the children have been settling back into the routine of school quite nicely! They have been very excited to see all of their teachers again and to be back with their friends every day. The children have been able to effortlessly slide back into our rigorous school day and are excited to continue working on their alphabet books.

Each week the children have been making a page dedicated to our letter of the week. This week, we made our page for the letter "K".  Before they know it, the children will have a page for every letter and will be ready to take their completed book home!

  From The Nurse's Office

It's Flu Season!

Hello from the nurse's office!  As you all know, it is flu season. The number of reported cases is rising quickly.  The flu is very contagious and can spread from person to person by breathing in the droplets in a cough, sneeze, or runny nose.

Signs and symptoms of the flu include:
It comes on quickly. Most people with the flu feel very tired and may have a high fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea.

Prevention:
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends vaccination for everyone 6 months or older.  And, yes you still can get the flu with the vaccine, but it usually a much milder case.  WASH, WASH, WASH YOUR HANDS! This is still the best defense against illness. Wash especially before meals using soap and warm water. Alcohol based hand sanitizers work well!   Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue and throw in the trash.  Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

When can my child return to school:
Keep your child home until at least 24 hours after their fever is gone, without using fever reducing medications like acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin). Avoid products containing Aspirin.  A fever is defined as 100.4 or higher.

Effective Parenting

As we hear often with absolute truth, there is no parenting manual about exactly how to raise our children.  There are many challenges along the way due to our own life stressors, how we were raised, and our beliefs. There are times of extreme joy!  There are also times we feel like we are failing and our children will be unsuccessful.

There are several researched strategies to effective parenting that maximize our ability to ensure their overall successful development.  Click here  to read the full article and learn more!

Food For Thought

"I know now that true charity consists in bearing all of our neighbors' defects - not being surprised at their weakness, but edified at their smallest virtues."
