Principal’s Corner
Dear Lake Forest Community High School,
This is a beautiful Friday to end a beautiful, whirlwind of a week. From our students who are finishing AP exams to senior nights to banquets–it has been one for the record books. May is always crazy, and I believe we will all take it with a smile after the past two years. Lights and tunnels come to mind!
I know our Fanouts are getting longer and longer, and hopefully the “In This Issue” is helpful. We try to organize information as best we can (thank you to Elisa Smith), and sometimes we know we leave information out! Please know that you can always email additional information or celebrations to esmith@lfschools.net or elenart@lfschools.net–we would love to make sure we are celebrating and informing our community as much as we can!
This week, the official announcement of our National Merit Scholarship recipient, Sidd Ojha, was released. This is a prestigious scholarship, and one in which Sid is so very deserving! The press release is below. We also have many, many other awards to celebrate in our upcoming Honors Night on May 26th. It is great to be a Scout.
As a note of caution, there have been a few crimes in our community that I believe are targeted at senior citizens. Mainly, residents are approached by someone claiming to work for a tree service, public, or private contractor, and then somehow distracted while someone else enters their home and burglarizes them. Being a community school means that we look out for everyone, so I ask members of our community to consider speaking with elderly neighbors and letting them know that this is happening. I have been told that this crime scheme will spike every so often, so let’s remain vigilant for our neighbors and our community.
Here is to a restful weekend!

National Merit Scholarship
Lake Forest Community High School senior Siddhartha M. Ojha was awarded a 2022 National Merit $2,500 Scholarship. Siddhartha is one of 2,500 National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners, chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding Finalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.
National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners are the Finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.
"We are so proud of Sidd for winning this prestigious scholarship, but even more so, we are just proud to know him and call him a Scout," said Lake Forest Community High School Principal Dr. Erin Lenart. "From his 9th grade year, he has been a leader and inspiration to not only his peers, but our teachers and staff, as well."
In keeping with tradition, the 2022 Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding Finalists in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winners are the Finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.
These Scholars were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high
school counselors, who appraised a substantial amount of information submitted by both the Finalists and their high schools: the academic record, including difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned; scores from the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®); contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by the Finalist; and a recommendation written by a high school official.
This year’s National Merit Scholarship Program began in October 2020 when high school
juniors took the PSAT/NMSQT, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. Last fall, the highest-scoring participants in each state, representing less than one percent of the nation’s high school seniors, were named Semifinalists on a state-representational basis. More than 16,000 Semifinalists had an opportunity to continue in the competition.
From the Semifinalist group, over 15,000 students met the very high academic standards
and other requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. By the conclusion of the 2022 program, about 7,500 Finalists will have earned the “Merit Scholar” title and received a total of nearly $28 million in college scholarships.
NMSC, a not-for-profit corporation that operates without government assistance, was
founded in 1955 specifically to conduct the National Merit Scholarship Program. The majority of scholarships offered each year are underwritten by approximately 400 independent corporate and college sponsors that share NMSC’s goals of honoring scholastically talented youth and encouraging academic excellence at all levels of education.

Spanish Class (Latin American Music)
Our teaching assistant Andy McBeath had the privilege to teach one of our Spanish classes as a fun way to cap off their study of Latin American music. The students got to play claves, congas, bongos, guiro, maracas, and a cabasa. They also listened to examples of different styles of music and learned a little bit about the history of music. The students really enjoyed getting to actually play the instruments and get some “hands on” experience!

Rincón de la Directora
Estimada Escuela De Lake Forest High School,
