Manitoba Chambers of Commerce - MBIZ Awards
The Manitoba Chamber of Commerce held its MBIZ Awards Gala on Friday October 28, 2016. A record crowd which included the Lieutenant Governor, the honourable Janice Filmon, celebrated thriving businesses that are helping the urban and rural communities they operate in.
We would like to congratulate one of our Chamber members "BISON TRANSPORT" on winning the Lieutenant-Governor's Award for Outstanding Contribution by a Business to the Community.
The Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce is working to enhance our Business Excellence Awards. We can use the support of our members to serve on various sub-committees as we develop this high profile event for spring 2017. Contact Richard at the chamber office if interested.

Changes to City of Winnipeg Executive Policy Committees.
On October 27, 2016, Mayor Brian Bowman announced changes to the Executive Policy Committee and other important committees so Council's efforts on managing the infrastructure needs of a growing, thriving city while also ensuring fiscal prudence, discipline, and careful stewardship of city resources will be effective.
Our area Councillors were all affected by these changes.
Councillor Scott Gillingham
is now
Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance and also Council Liaison for Labour Relations.
Councillor Marty Morantz is now Chair of the Standing Committee on Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works
Councillor Shawn Dobson
is now
Representative for the Mayor's Age Friendly and Senior's Advisory Committee

We have launched our charitable campaign that began with the October 20 Luncheon. Raffle Draw tickets are on sale and available from board members or at the office. Grand prize is for a 40" HDTV compliments of Advance Electronics and a wide selection of mystery prizes to be announced at the Dec 15 luncheon.
Through October into early December we will be accepting donations, both cash and food for Winnipeg Harvest at our monthly events and at the chamber office. The special need is always for baby food and formula. We are also promoting for our members to host a Winnipeg Harvest bin at their place of business to collect food donations. If you would like a collection bin for your business send us an email and we will provide the request form.

Coffee with the Chamber, on November 18, November 25 and December 2, 2017 we will be hosting an Open House each Friday to receive your Harvest donations of both cash and food at the Chamber Office. Join us between 10 am and 2 pm for coffee, fresh baking and fellowship. So mark your calendars and plan on attending.
Our December 15 lunch event is dedicated to Winnipeg Harvest with a keynote address from David Northcott. The morning of December 15th in advance of the luncheon we will be coordinating chamber members to donate time to pack hampers at the Winnipeg Harvest facility.

Approved Changes To Red River Exhibition Park
Recently, the Assiniboia Community Committee approved the plan to allow development at Red River Exhibition Park allowing us to continue with plans to create our new entertainment destination center.
Winnipeg stand alone as the only major city in North America without an industrial trade show facility. The Red River Exhibition can deliver a facility that will drive new business to west Winnipeg, filling hotel rooms and restaurants as well as providing the community with many needed amenities.
In order to fund this expansion a retail center and office park will be built to provide needed revenue and long-term sustainability. We are self-sustaining today and intend on remaining so for years to come.
Our first step was to build a new four-lane road to solve local traffic concerns. Festival Drive and a new third lane on Portage Avenue opened for this year's Red River Ex, which alleviated these issues. Watch for more update in the near future.
