Another year is coming to the end for the Auxiliary when our fiscal year closes on June 30 th . Unit rosters will be going out to Presidents and Secretaries in July and will be the roster to use for completing the Life Member Verification Form. We have elected new Officers for Units and Departments and submitted annual reports for Units and National Officers. All our Departments held their annual conventions online via Zoom this year. This allowed me the opportunity to attend them all. The Department Presidents did a great job adapting their conventions to a virtual format. Congratulations on a job well done!

We have observed from the Inspection Reports, Annual Reports, Installation Reports, Units closing and speaking with Officers, the decline in meeting participation. This is not unique to the Auxiliary and you hear the same from many organizations. Harvard Professor, Robert Putnam, in his book, Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community, says that over the last 25 years there has been a 58 percent drop in attendance in club meetings in towns and cities across America. The question is: can organizations adapt to survive with decreased meeting attendance?

With COVID making it necessary for a wide range of gatherings not to be in-person we may have seen the answer to that question. Many organizations saw the benefit of increased attendance with virtually meetings and are rapidly forming online chapters to take advantage of the virtual popularity. In the Auxiliary, we have Units that are now holding their monthly meetings via Zoom and are planning to incorporate in-person meetings with Zoom participation in the future. I urge our Units to consider using Zoom (National’s paid account is available for Unit's use) to increase member participation and involvement. Join us on Thursday’s Zoom monthly meeting to see how easy Zoom meetings are to hold.

I receive a lot of questions about the status of the National Convention. MOPH has voted to postpone the scheduled Convention to sometime in September but will re-evaluate the situation in August to see where the Country stands with COVID and opening of the states. You can read National Commander Felix Garcia’s message by clicking here . The Auxiliary will be waiting for further direction from the Order on the status of this year’s National Convention.

As always, National is here to be a resource and support for your Units and Departments. Do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or for information. Be Well and Stay Safe.

These last few months have been great getting to meet so many of our members via Zoom. I hope and trust each of you are well and staying safe and healthy. Undoubtedly, the last few months have looked different than any of us could have imagined going into the end of our fiscal year. Hopefully the summer months give some reprieve and you're able to visit with friends and fellow members. If not, never underestimate the power of a quick call or note in the mail.

If you find yourself, your Unit, or Department struggling with keeping up or just need to chat about ideas, please reach out. In conducting the Inspection Reports this year, I found that almost half of our Units struggle to get a quorum. Many are participating in great community events but others need fresh ideas to engage their membership.

Please reach out if I can help you during this season of transitioning into our next year. I want this year to be a year filled with giving our members tangible tools they can use. You can reach me at aflener1@gmail.com - Officer phone numbers and emails can be found on the Directory farther down on this email.

A TIME FOR AWARENESS

As we travel from May unto June, we realize that we are officially going to start our summer season. We become aware it is a time for graduations, vacations, weddings
and for some just a time to be at the beach enjoying the sun and a good book.
We are aware that the summer 2020 will be different, due to this horrific pandemic.
Even that can’t stop us from being grateful to be living in the United States of America.

On June 14th we celebrate Flag Day. On this day we commemorate the adoption of our flag. This resolution was signed by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.
When we see this symbol we are assured that we were in the land of the free and the home of the brave where anything is possible.

June 27 is national PTSD awareness day. This is a time where we are made aware of the post-traumatic stress that Many suffer due to being exposed to Traumatic events that have taken place in their lives. As members of this Auxiliary we are very familiar with this disorder since many of our patriots are victims of this disease. Many of our first responders are also victims, due to this pandemic we are destined to have many more.

We pray for the EMT who transports the patients to the hospitals, the doctors and nurses who care for them, the housekeeper who cleans the rooms, the food delivery drivers and the checkers and stockers in the grocery stores and many others in service industries who provide the necessaries of our daily lives. But most of all the victims who have contracted this deadly virus and the families and loved ones of those who did not survive and have transitioned to be with our Heavenly Father in the home He has provided for them. May we all be ever mindful of the sacrifices these individuals have made and continue to make to protect each of us. May we each show compassion and understanding and do all we can to help them in any way possible.
May we remember the less fortunate among us. May we always remember the ultimate sacrifice Your Son gave for each of us on the Cross. We ask these things in the name of Jesus. AMEN

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27

National Membership Officer
Greetings to All,

First, I want to mention that I’m starting to receive Life Member Verification reports. Thank you for being prompt, but PLEASE know they are not valid prior to July. Please wait until I send your Unit a new roster shortly after the end of our fiscal year of June 30th. You should expect to receive them no later than July 5. At that time, you may complete your Life Member Verification Report so it is based on that roster of members. As well, I am always available to send roster requests as needed. My main e-mail is mophamembership@gmail.com .
Second, two years ago when we dropped the word ‘Ladies’ from our Auxiliary name, we were offered the unique occasion to rapidly grow our membership. We were no longer an organization of just female members yet, as of now, we have only signed up 23 male members. This is such a huge opportunity to grow! We need your fathers, your sons and your brothers. Additionally, this is the lowest year of new members that I’ve seen in the time that I’ve been the National Membership Officer. I would hope that all of you will reach out to at least one eligible male to become a member of this organization and yes, Sign them up!
Best all everything to all of you. Stay safe - stay well.
DEPARTMENT OF CALIFORNIA AWARDS THREE SCHOLARSHIPS DURING ANNUAL CONVENTION HELD MAY 2020 VIA ZOOM
Every year at the Department of California’s May Annual Convention, one or more educational scholarships are awarded. Most of the recipients are high school seniors, existing college/trade school students and a few have been Veterans continuing their education.

This year we had three very deserving students each receive a $1,000.00 scholarship, with one of the three being “The Debbie Sweet Memorial Scholarship”. Debbie was continually active in the LAMOPH as a Past Unit President, PDP and Region 6 President.
Recipients were Riley Johnson, Unit 385, Folsom; Giana Waller, Unit 49, San Diego; and Rachel Perez, Unit 49, San Diego. Riley will be starting college in the fall, Giana and Rachel are continuing college students.
Riley Johnson being presented his scholarship award by Grandma Peggy Hughes.
Giana Waller being presented her scholarship award by Grandparents George and Barbara Waller.
CONGRATULATIONS RILEY, GIANA AND RACHEL!
We know you will accomplish great things in life!
