What will it take for you to say, "2020 was the best year ever at my program?" What does a successful year look like to you? I am going to challenge you to find at least an hour to really plan for the new year.
Write out what success looks like to you. Then, break that into big project goals. Think about how you will celebrate when you meet the goal. Next, write out the steps it will take to meet the goal. Each week, look at your goals and write out what you are doing that week to get you closer to your goal.
Example 1: My dream of a successful year includes having two or less violations with DHS licensing.
I may write my goal out as: "Have two or less DHS violations with no serious non-compliances."
Reward: When we successfully meet this goal, we will _________________.
Step 1: Review all previous non-compliance issues and ensure there is a plan in place to avoid
further violations.
Step 2: Have a staff meeting and play a game to review the DHS handbook.
Step 3: Create a schedule that will allow different staff members to do mock visits throughout
the year.
Step 4: Celebrate!
Example 2: My dream of a successful year includes having families actively engaged in the program. I may write my goal out as: "Create 4 different ways/opportunities for families to be engaged with the
program."
Reward: Families and staff partnering together creating a thriving, engaged and peaceful environment.
Step 1: Google ways families can be engaged in child care programs. Create a survey with ideas and send it out to parents to find out which one appeal to them by January 2020.
Step 2: Form a committee to plan events (Family members and staff.)
Step 3: Plan and implement 1st family engagement opportunity by March 2020.
Step 4: Plan and implement 1st family engagement opportunity by June 2020.
Step 5: Plan and implement 1st family engagement opportunity by Sept 2020.
Step 6: Plan and implement 1st family engagement opportunity by Dec 2020.
Step 7: Celebrate!
