Message from the Superintendent
Dear Families,

As you are aware, the District is providing weekly optional COVID-19 testing for our students with parental consent. Yesterday, voluntary testing took place at Carver Elementary School and we learned this morning that all test results came back negative. This is great news! It’s important for everyone to know that the testing of students requires consent from parents if the student is under 18 years old.

In the San Marino Unified School District, tests are only one component of a broader safety plan. According to health officials, vaccinations, social distancing, proper ventilation, regular and thorough cleaning and disinfecting, contact tracing and the wearing of masks indoors are essential measures to stop the spread of Covid. The only requirement that the County imposes is indoor masking.

As a reminder, all students and adults on campus, regardless of whether they’re vaccinated, must wear masks at all times while indoors. Our maintenance and operations department is working hard to ensure that all classrooms and common spaces are clean and sanitized in accordance with current standards.

As educators and administrators, we must rely on our Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) officials to guide us during this challenging time. As such, the District will continue to follow the LACDPH guidance to ensure we are doing our absolute best to keep all students as safe as possible.

Please feel free to reach out to your site principals or me with any concerns or questions you may have. I am committed to keeping everyone informed. Thank you, for your patience, support, and understanding. We will get through this together!

Cordially,

Dr. Linda de la Torre
Acting Superintendent
