Since 1999, International Youth Day is observed every year on August 12th. On this day, governments and citizens across the world come together to bring attention to the problems that youth and young adults face. The day is celebrated through various campaigns, community concerts and events to bring awareness to the socio-economic and socio-political issues that youth in every nation face.
This year’s theme is “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”. According to the United Nations, this theme highlights the crucial need for “inclusive support mechanisms that ensure youth continue to amplify efforts collectively and individually to restore the planet and protect life while integrating biodiversity in transforming food systems.”
Youth can be a positive force for development when provided with the knowledge and opportunity they need to thrive. Today, there are 1.2 billion young people, ages 15-24 years, accounting for 16% of the global population.
Community Teamwork’s YouthBuild program is very proud of its support and dedication to the youth population between the ages of 16 and 24. YouthBuild provides education and employment training to prepare youth who have dropped out of school for careers in Construction and Culinary Arts.
Primary components of YouthBuild’s training include: HiSET Education, Career Development, Case Management and Counseling, Graduate Services, Leadership Development, Construction and Culinary Arts training.
