The sun was shining, the music was playing and our favorite furry friends were excited to be out of the shelter and in the community, as the First Annual Wag Your Wheels Motor Show kicked off with greetings from local radio star and former Camden County Commissioner, Tom Matthews and Homeward Bound Executive Director Jill Rawlins. With hundreds of people enjoying the event, it was bound to happen- Love at first sight! Alx and Oliver were destined for one another. It is a real Cinderella story.
Oliver (formerly Rusty) arrived at Homeward Bound (HBPAC) covered in tics and in need of medical attention as a stray brought in by animal control. The amazing “fairy godmother’s” at HBPAC provided the medicine needed and cleaned up the 9 month old wire dachshund/terrier mix and his sweetness began to shine through. On the day of the motor show, which we are referring to as “the ball” for this epic story, Oliver was ready for his big debut, no glass slippers needed!
Long-time volunteer, Alx Davis was assigned as Oliver's chaperone for the big ball. From the minute the leash was locked on to his collar and in Alx’s hand, the two were inseparable. They weaved in and out of the 1969 Corvette and rounded the third row of cars as the music played and the people watched them. All the volunteers and staff from HBPAC were rooting for a happy ending. Alx and Oliver glided up to the HBPAC booth and the rest is as they say history. Oliver is homeward bound with Alx- he has found his fur-ever home.
