Getting Things Done Over Winter Break
|
|
Please join us in a big shout out of thanks for our facilities team - Craig Ludtke and Bacilio Ramirez, who worked over the break to keep our school beautiful and safe. Their projects included fixing floor tiles, clearing the roof of leaves, painting, coordinating with plumbers, and more. If you see them around school please be sure to thank them for all they do all year long for the upkeep of the building and grounds!

Preschool & Kindergarten Saturday Open House
Saturday, January 11 (snow date Jan 18)
An opportunity for the whole family to meet with Waldorf early childhood teachers, see a puppet play, and participate in Waldorf classroom activities.
This is a great opportunity to invite friends and neighbors with young children to learn more about WWS.

WWS Adult Education: Nancy Blanning on "Sensing the World and Building the Brain—Partners for Life"
Wednesday, January 15 at 7pm in the WWS Library
We commonly believe that human beings have five senses with which to perceive and understand the world. However, modern neurological research and Waldorf Education both tell us that we actually have and use twelve senses. The way we develop these twelve senses during childhood lays a foundation for all of our development for the rest of our lives.
This presentation by
Nancy Blanning (
Author, Teacher, and Co-Director of the Sunbridge Early Childhood Teacher Training Program) will offer a framework for understanding the twelve senses and how they develop as "partners" to lay the ground work for how we will live with each other in social, community life. Practical examples and suggestions of how we can encourage our children's healthy development will be shared.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Morning of Service Work
Monday, January 20 from 10am-12pm
As we have done in the past, we will gather for a morning of service on MLK Day 2020. All are welcome, but we need a few folks to
sign up for specific tasks
.
We will:
- create gifts for children at NIH including felt pencil toppers, tassel necklaces, tic-tac-toe games, notebooks, and felt pencil pouches
- pack snacks for Cup of Joe
- make Scarves for Operation Gratitude for our service men and women
- ...and More!
As your “admissions ticket”, please bring toiletries or infant supplies (diapers, wipes, etc.) for
NCCF
.
Please note that most activities are for children grade 1 and up.
If you are not able to attend, but would still like to make a monetary contribution toward the snacks for Cup of Joe, please

Conversation About Cell Phone Safety

(TF3)
stands at the busy intersection of Americana, modern pop, and classical music. To experience TF3 live is to hear the various eras, styles, and traditions of Western music fold in on themselves and emerge anew.

Bonded by an uncommon blend of their instruments fused together with their voices, Charles Yang (violin, vocals), Nicolas “Nick” Kendall (violin, vocals), and Ranaan Meyer (double bass, vocals), have found a unique voice of expression to share with the world. TF3 is renowned for their charismatic performances in venues including Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, and The Royal Albert hall. They have collaborated with artists such as Ben Folds, Branford Marsalis, and Joshua Bell, and have premiered works by composers Chris Brubeck and Pulitzer Prize winners Jennifer Higdon and William Bolcom. Sitter Needed for 2.5 Year Old
We are looking for a sitter to spend a couple hours a week - Saturday mornings from about 9:00-12:30 to take care of our very fun and energetic 2.5 year old. If the weather is decent, we'd love for the time to be spent at the playground, walking on the nearby trail, library, etc. so I can prepare our home for the arrival of our second child in March. We'd love the sitter to begin as soon as January 4, 2020.
There may be some additional ad hoc evenings if that is of interest, but we'd love to begin with Saturdays. If you or anyone you know might be interested, please share this with them. We live behind Northwood High School in Silver Spring, MD.

Mindful Connections to Earth: Workshop for Educators

World renowned mindfulness educator Maria Kluge will offer a
workshop for D.C. area teachers
and other school staff on how to help students reconnect with the earth using mindfulness. This workshop is sponsored by the Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School and DC Area Educators for Social Justice as part of the Zinn Education Project Teach Climate Justice campaign.
Maria went through Waldorf Education in Germany (Munich) and did her mindfulness training with Jon Kabat Zinn.
