June 21, 2020
Dear Families,
We appreciate the collaboration and support of all of our families in these past few months. We have faced an unprecedented world health crisis with caring and adaptability. Thank you.

Our work now is focused on how we can maintain a safe and healthy environment for our whole school community as we also provide meaningful academic instruction for all of our students. Our future plans will be guided by instructions from county, state and federal health authorities. Additionally, your feedback is essential. We appreciate your completing our Parent Survey online so we may better understand your personal priorities, concerns, and suggestions.

Please complete a separate survey for each child you have at Rochambeau. Your responses are anonymous and your child’s name will not be identified. Responses from families will only be reported in summary form.

The Parent Survey asks for your feedback on reopening possibilities for Fall 2020 and also to reflect on your child’s learning experiences during the final 6 weeks of distance learning (May-June 2020) , once the learning protocols had been adjusted and schedules adapted from the initial days of distance learning. This time period was selected because we want to understand what to do next in supporting ongoing student learning and instruction.
Plans for Fall 2020
We hope to be able to open without restrictions, but health conditions and safety may require our adaptation. Conditions may also change during the school year that may allow or require us to shift to a different approach during the year. We therefore ask for your feedback about 4 possible reopening approaches.

Possible Reopening Approach 1:
Virtual Start
  • No students allowed in school buildings
  • All instruction delivered virtually through enhanced distanced learning
  • Students given more digital access and digital curriculum resources

Possible Reopening Approach 2:
Reopening with Health and Social Distancing, All Students in School Buildings in Alternate Weeks (Split Class Groups)
  • School building Capacity reduced to approximately 50% at one time
  • All students :
  • receive in-person instruction on an alternating week schedule
  • attend their regularly assigned campus location
  • receive supplemental instruction through enhanced distance learning, including expanded digital access and curriculum resources
  • Students with special learning needs to receive priority for adapted instructional support (SLS, French language learners, FLESCO, etc.)
  • New health and safety protocols in classrooms and non-academic settings that meet local health requirements *

Possible Reopening Approach 3:
Reopening with Health and Social Distancing, Some Students Receive Full-Time Instruction in School Buildings While Other Students in School Buildings in Alternate Weeks (Split Class Groups)
  • School building Capacity reduced to approximately 50% at one time
  • Full-time in-person instruction for students with a high need for face-to-face instruction: young learners in Maternelle, young Elementary (grades 1 - 2), critical transition year (Grades 6).
  • Alternate Week Schedule for in-person instruction for students in grades 3 - 5 and 7 - 12 with supplemental instruction through enhanced distance learning, including expanded digital access and curriculum resources
  • Campus Assignments for Instruction:
  • Bradley Campus - up through MS
  • Rollingwood Campus - GS / Kindergarten - 2nd CE1
  • Forest Road Campus - CE2 - Tle
  • Students with special learning needs to receive priority for adapted instructional support (SLS, French language learners, FLESCO, etc.)
  • New health and safety protocols in classrooms and non-academic settings that meet local health requirements *

Possible Reopening Approach 4:
Reopening with Limited Social Distancing, All Students in School Building 5 Days a Week
  • All students receive in-person instruction
  • No capacity modifications on campuses
  • New health and safety protocols in classrooms and non-academic settings that meet local health requirements. *
* In each of the on-campus scenarios, Approaches 2, 3 and 4, enhanced cleaning of school buildings and equipment would be implemented as well as health and safety protocols such as: students and teachers might be required to wear masks, spread out desks in classrooms, adjust size of recess groups, modify sport activities to avoid shared equipment and close contact, continued “no visitor” policy on campus, health isolation rooms on each campus, parent drop-offs to kiss-and-ride (no school building entry).
I thank you for your collaboration and candid feedback as we proceed through these unprecedented times to shape future learning experiences to benefit all of our students and support all of our families.

Kind regards,
Hélène Fabre
