City Council Announces Police Chief Alan Piombo to Serve in City's Lead Role Through Recruitment of New City Manager
In the wake of City Manager Jim McCann's announcement of his retirement earlier this year, the Mill Valley City Council has announced that Mill Valley Police Chief Alan Piombo will serve in the City's lead role on an interim basis, and guide the City through its transition between permanent City Managers.  Learn more.

PG&E Tree Work and Debris Removal
In recent months, members of the Mill Valley community have noted that PG&E has left behind debris piles from their work pruning and removing trees that are too close to their transmission and distribution lines. Mill Valley Garners $450,000 Grant to Fund Safe Routes to School  
The  Transportation Authority of Marin approved a total of $450,000 in grants for the City of Mill Valley to fund two development projects that will improve bicycle safety in Mill Valley, as part of the Countywide Safe Pathways to School Program.  Learn more.
RSVP Parking Permits are Half Price!
The City of Mill Valley's Resident Shopper Vehicle Permit (RSVP) program allows residents of Mill Valley and nearby towns to park for free at a metered space as a way to promote downtown businesses. The reduced cost of the RSVP permits is $25.00 per vehicle for Mill Valley residents, and $35 for residents with zip codes of 94920, 94925, and 94965. Learn more.

Community service in Mill Valley takes many forms, historically it takes the form of an individual or group working on one particular project to benefit a specific need within the community. Mill Valley Arts Commission announces Call for Musical Artists
The Mill Valley Arts Commission will host outdoor concerts on the Downtown Plaza in summer 2020.
All interested musical artists are encouraged to apply.  To be considered, first complete the  online Musical Artist Submission form  by Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 5pm.  Learn more .

We rely on the participation of our community members in conducting research and making recommendations to Council on a number of important topics. Here is an update on the latest from our short-term Advisory Committees: 

Downtown Project Advisory Committee - Save the date for a Community Workshop on January 28, 2020. More info to come soon! Learn more.

Flood Management and Drainage Master Plan Task Force -  They held their Kick Off Meeting in November 2019, and the next task force meeting is planned for February 2020 prior to a community meeting. Learn more.

Fire Hazard Reduction Advisory Committee - The  next upcoming meeting is on January 22, from 1-3 at the Mill Valley Community Center. Learn more.
Mill Valley Recreation is HIRING

Cocoa with a Cop at Mill Valley Middle School
The Mill Valley Police Department would like to thank Mill Valley Middle School for allowing us to host Cocoa with a Cop on campus late last month. We enjoyed interacting with students and faculty who arrived early to participate in the event!
City Council Hosts Special Meeting Focused on Seniors in Community
On December 19, 2019, the City Council hosted a special meeting at The Redwoods focused on "Serving the Senior Community." The special meeting was a timely one that generated strong interest, with over 50 members of the community in attendance and lively discussion.   Learn more.

  • Received a Presentation from Mr. Brian Van Weele, Chief Philanthropic Officer of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging. 
  • Received an Overview of Services and Programs Offered by Mill Valley Villages from Ms. Trish Hibben of Mill Valley Villages. 
  • Received an Update on Recent Housing Legislation from Senior Planner Staude of the Mill Valley Planning and Building Department.

    • Appointing Lizelle Green to the Arts Commission to Fill an Unanticipated Vacancy.
    • Approving the Labor Agreement Memorandum of Understanding with the Fire Chief Officers Association Representing the City's Fire Battalion Chiefs. 
  • Received Update Regarding the Formation of the Golf Course Path Design Advisory Committee and the Strategy to Move the Concept Plan to Construction Documents.
  • Appointed Police Chief Alan Piombo to Serve as Acting City Manager during the Recruitment of a New City Manager.
  • Approved a  Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Southern Marin Fire District for Shared Fire Department Management Services and Authorized the City Manager to Execute a 2-Year Pilot Agreement.
