Season's Greetings and Happy Holidays!!
As we prepare to say goodbye to 2019 and the close of the decade, we pause to reflect on the year(s) that passed and to thank YOU for your support of our work. We helped the HU Champion Volleyball team travel to Botswana and Zimbabwe for the 1st time ever and incorporated a 2-week program abroad into the Bison STEM Scholars program. We welcomed many distinguished guests like Ambassador Andrew Young and former President of Brazil, Dilma Rouseff.
In 2019 we sent over 200 students abroad and partnered with the College of Arts and Sciences to get passports in the hands of over 130 1st year students for the very first time! We launched the semester-long study abroad program in Cali, Colombia with CET Academic Programs! And we welcomed representatives from 20 different HBCUs to campus for
Prioritize & Lead: HBCU Symposium on Study Abroad II to make sure that our HBCU colleagues have tools they can use to get their students abroad.
We had Howard University well represented at the annual NAFSA Conference which welcomed over 10,000 people to DC from all over the world. And we won the Innovation in Diversity Award from GoAbroad.com. We hosted our first annual Bunche Center Awards where we celebrated some of the most committed champions of international education across campus as well as our amazing partners.
We launched our 2019-20 annual series,
Water Worldwide: An Interdisciplinary Series and re-launched the Patricia Roberts Harris Fellowship Program with an exceptional cohort of 6 HU students who will be mentored by experts in public/international affairs and participate in internships domestically and abroad. The Rangel, Pickering and Payne Fellowship Programs had an excellent application season and we look forward to meeting all of our new fellows (including several HU alums!) in the summer! It has been an exciting and very busy year and 2020 promises to continue that trend! We have a number of exciting things lined up for the spring, some I can't discuss right now (smile)so you'll just have to stay in touch with us via social media or our mailing list.
None of these phenomenal things would be possible without the tireless commitment and incredibly hard work of the entire Bunche Center team for whom I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with every day. We are thankful for our dedicated HU colleagues, and for YOU and all that you do to support the Bunche Center and Howard University!
Happy Holidays!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Decade!
May all your wishes come true!!
