September E-Notes
Welcome Back for the New School Year

And welcome to a very special edition of E-Notes! You might notice that this month's E-Notes has a brand new look. We began working with a consultant last year to bring a fresh, modern approach to our logo, website, and more. We're thrilled with the results and you can read more about the project in our blog.
In the meantime, a lot of other things have been happening since the start of the pandemic. In the words of Inigo Montoya (in case you're a Princess Bride fan), "Let me explain. No, there is too much - let me sum up." Here's the short version: we moved all of our instruction online, we had over 300 students perform in virtual spring recitals, we taught a record number of summer lessons, we launched a Music from Home series, our music therapist recorded a video series for seniors, we developed a comprehensive plan for the fall, we are completing modifications to our building, and this week we held a virtual faculty meeting (and virtual potluck dinner) with most of our 60 teaching artists. We have never been more proud to be united as a community, and we are ready to welcome new and returning students this fall. Whether online or in person, WCMS will continue to serve as a vibrant regional hub for world-class education and programming.
Plans for Fall Semester 2020

Your Choice: Learn Remotely or Go Hybrid

  • All lessons and classes will begin remotely for the start of the school year.
  • Some lessons and classes will transition to a hybrid model as soon as it is safe and practical, based on the preference and scheduling of individual student families and teachers.
  • Teachers and students who prefer remote learning can continue that model for as long as needed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Learn more on our COVID-19 information page.

What Will the Building Look Like?

  • Staffed greeter desks at the front door and lower door
  • Plexiglass around greeter desks and front office desk
  • Health screening app (or paper form) for everyone who enters the building
  • Reduced building capacity
  • Air circulation and filtration that exceed CDC guidance
  • Comprehensive cleaning and hygiene protocols
  • Face coverings required at all times in the building
Fall Semester Begins September 9
Private Lessons
Group Classes
We have several group classes ready to begin online in September, and more are in the works! Register now!

Ensembles
Ensembles are being evaluated on a case-by-case basis for remote or hybrid learning. We are exploring a number of options, but the existing technology for online synchronous performance is limited and often impractical. Stay tuned - we will bring you updates when they become available. (The Jenks Recorder Ensemble for older adults meets via Zoom.)
The Recording Studio is Open
Now booking appointments for the fall! The recording studio at WCMS is located adjacent to Nichols Hall, providing a spacious and comfortable environment for creating professional recordings. Recording sessions are available for anyone (not just WCMS students) and can be booked any time of year, whether you need something for a college application, an audition, or for promotion. Learn more and submit an inquiry to schedule a session.
Studying music has had a hugely positive impact on my life. Aside from the enjoyment I get out of playing and listening to music, it has given me a purpose and a goal to work toward. It has also been a way to discover more about myself, and communicate to others in ways that go beyond words.
