Friends:
The City of Philadelphia mandates again that all be masked at indoor gatherings and maintain physical distancing. I don't look forward to wearing a mask again while preaching and leading the service, but, "short-term pain, long-term gain."
In our readings this Sunday, we end the long saga of King David and the consequences of choices which resulted in the tragic death of his son Absalom. All choices are moral judgements; all we do effects other people, if not in the short-term, then the long-term. That edict holds for vaccines, masks, consumer choices, voting and what to eat. We are all inter-dependent and reliant on each other to do what is right. Love your neighbor as yourself. It is no simpler than that.
See you Sunday at 10 a.m., in church or on the livestream!

Sunday, September 12: "Welcome Back" Sunday for kids' programs!
Mark your calendars for Sunday September 12, when we'll welcome the new fall season with refreshments after the 10 a.m. service in the garden. And we'll resume our kids' programs after the long pandemic hiatus: The nursery will be open with our excellent team of caregivers every Sunday from 8:45 (so parents can join in the Forum) to 11:15 (longer when there are classes like Journeys); Godly Play with Ms. Robin will have two start times every Sunday, at 9 and 10 a.m; and our Youth Group will meet at 9 a.m., during the Forum. See you then!

From the Strategic Planning Committee:
One of the most important aspects of our parish's upcoming leadership transition is to pray that God will shepherd our community through the process. We encourage everyone to pray for God's guidance as our community enters this exciting phase. For those who prefer to pray on their own, here is a prayer to guide you that is also reprinted in our weekly bulletin:
God of love, in this season of change, we pray for our parish community, that we may be genuine in our self-reflection, vibrant in our commitment, patient in our discernment, loving in our communion, joyous in our celebrations, imaginative about our future, and daring in our faith. As we enter into this time of change with excitement, we recall your deep compassion, presence, and abounding love. We thank you for the gifts, talents, and skills with which you continue to bless us. We thank you for the experiences that have brought us to this moment. Be with us as we move forward, rejoicing with you and supporting one another. All this we pray, empowered by the love of Jesus Christ. Amen.
For those who would like to pray about the transition more deeply with others, Donna Liu has graciously agreed to lead a group dedicated to praying for our community as we seek a new Rector. Please contact Donna directly at cardinalcounseling@gmail.com to express your interest. Once Donna has received a few responses, then she will provide a time that you may join a half-hour monthly Zoom prayer session that Donna will facilitate."
