COVID-19 Update
Travis County moved into Stage 5 of the COVID-19 Risk-Based Guidelines this week, the highest stage level. This is due to an increase in hospitalizations with the seven-day average now over the 50 admission threshold. The guidelines recommend all individuals avoid any gatherings with those not in your immediate household, avoid dining/shopping except as essential and recommend that businesses move to contactless (curbside or delivery) service. Additionally, a new Travis County Order outlines these new recommended restrictions and is in effect until at least January 11, 2021. Click here for the details.

There have been a total of 47,076* cumulative cases in Travis County, which is up from 2,695* compared with the same time last week and 2,862 compared with the week before that. Here is a further breakdown of the numbers:

Several Honored With 2020 City Awards
Several awards were handed out this month and presented at City Council this past Monday to honor our hard-working volunteers and city partners. Our volunteers were busy this year finalizing the Comprehensive Plan and working on other committees like the Economic Development Committee and the Zoning and Planning Committee. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic, a formal ceremony was not able to take place this year.

Four Community Partner Awards were handed out to organizations who worked on the frontlines to help the community through the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor Sandy Cox was able to hand out awards to those recipients the past few weeks and present the winners at City Council on Monday, December 21.

Safe Holiday Activities For Your Family
There are plenty of activities from the City of Lakeway's Parks & Recreation Department to keep your family occupied during the remainder of the holiday season. If you have a knack for decorating, there is a Gingerbread House Decorating contest running through next week. Additionally, there are 12 lighted holiday numbered signs throughout Lakeway. If you're able to find all of those signs, you can fill out a form online to compete in the 12 Days of Christmas Scavenger Hunt! Finally, starting the first week of January and to kick off the new year you will be able to search for 10 clocks throughout Lakeway City Park. Find the clocks, scan the code, and you could win a prize. Also, don't forget that the Trail of Lights runs through the beginning of January. NEW: 'Bye 2020' Fireworks Show

We're giving residents a chance to kiss 2020 goodbye with a short drive-thru fireworks display on Thursday, December 30. Fireworks will shoot off at 8 p.m. near a high point in Rough Hollow on the western edge of Lakeway (click here to see the parking and launch map). It will be visible from multiple points across Lakeway, so you won't have to travel far. There will be limited parking, but we ask all those who plan to come out and watch the fireworks to stay in or at your car during the short 10 minute show and stay socially distanced between other families. We're excited to say 'Bye 2020' with this fireworks display as we ring in a new year. Happy New Year from the City of Lakeway!
NEW: New BDS Director Named

Erin Carr has been named Director for Business and Development Services with the City of Lakeway. She was confirmed at City Council this past Monday. Erin was previously the interim director, and before that served as Building & Development Services Manager. The director oversees a team that helps guide community development, and implements and ensures compliance with the city's zoning, subdivision, development and building regulations, as well as other state and local laws. She also oversees Code Compliance as well as the city's Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which provides current maps and database information. Click here to learn more about the department.
