Governor's FOIA Extension Orders will End June 11
Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced Wednesday (6/3) that some of the more significant executive orders imposed as the COVID-19 pandemic took hold will be rescinded, including the order that allowed government bodies to extend some deadlines to respond under the Freedom of Information Act.  The executive ordered FOIA extensions will expire and return to normal at midnight on June 11, according to a report in Gongwer.

COVID-19 Relief Paycheck Protection Bill Passes Senate for Presidential Signature
The Senate passed on Wednesday (6/3) the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act, which tweaks the CARES Act's program that provided forgivable loans to small businesses if they spent them on keeping workers employed, according to a report in Broadcasting+Cable.  Read More

NAB Condemns Violence Against Journalists, Provides Resources for Stations
National Association of Broadcasters President and CEO Gordon H. Smith on Monday (6/1) publicly condemned recent reports of violence against journalist and offered resources for stations to defend their First Amendment rights and to help keep news teams safe.  Read More

Nexstar Stations Host Virtual Town Hall on State Issues with Congressional Leaders
On June 3, Nexstar Broadcasting stations in Michigan (WOOD-TV (Grand Rapids), WLNS-TV (Lansing) and WJMN-TV (Marquette) presented a live "virtual" Town Hall with Michigan's U.S. Democratic senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters  The 60-minute town hall, focused on the COVID-19 pandemic, economy, and protests in Michigan was moderated by WOOD-TV political reporter Rick Albin and WLNS-TV anchor Sheri Jones.  Read More

WQTX Adds 'DeDe in the Morning'
Midwest Communications-owned WQTX-FM (Lansing) has debuted the "DeDe in the Morning" show, airing weekday mornings from 5 - 10 a.m. weekdays. The syndicated morning program is now heard on over 40 stations.  Read More

Jason Addams Appointed OM of MacDonald Broadcasting Saginaw
Jason Addams joins MacDonald Broadcasting (Saginaw) as Operations Manager and Program Director of its four-station cluster.  Addams will oversee Country WKCQ-FM, Adult Hits WMJO-FM and AC WSAM-AM/WSAG-FM.  Read More

The National Association of Broadcasters and the Radio Advertising Bureau announced Wednesday (6/3) that the 2020 Radio Show, scheduled to be hosted in Nashville this September, will be replaced with virtual event amid concerns about the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Grand Valley State University's WGVU-FM has struck a deal with Goodrich Radio, LLC to acquire FM translator W237CZ (Grand Rapids).  The application for license transfer was filed with the FCC on June 3.  Read More

WWMT Celebrates 70 Years on the Air in Kalamazoo
Sinclair Broadcast Group's WWMT-TV (Kalamazoo) is celebrating 70 years on the air.  On June 1, 1950, the station signed on as WKZO-TV, West Michigan's CBS affiliate, running out of the Old Burdick Hotel, now the Radisson Plaza Hotel.  Read More
