Latest COVID-19 Guidelines
Lake County has moved to Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan. This phase further reduces restrictions previously in place due to lower COVID-19 positivity rates and other metrics outlined by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). Restaurants are now open for indoor dining for parties up to 10 people with 6 feet between parties, and retail shops and services can be open with 50% occupancy. Several Long Grove restaurants and businesses are open and welcome visitors, who are encouraged to call ahead and confirm hours of operation. A Long Grove business directory can be found on the Village website. More information about the new guidelines can be found here.

Volunteer for a Village Committee or Commission
The Village is always seeking residents who are interested in serving on a committee or commission, which can act as advisory boards and make recommendations to the Village Board. The committees include:

  • Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals (PCZBA): The PCZBA focuses on development, plan review and recommendations for zoning changes, and is responsible for updating the Village Comprehensive Plan.
  • Architectural Commission (AC): The AC reviews building requests, including signage, with an emphasis on aesthetics and harmony within the Village.
  • Conservancy/Scenic Corridor Committee (CSCC): The CSCC provides advisory information on districts and scenic corridors.
  • Economic Development Commission (EDC): The purpose of the EDC is to attract businesses to Long Grove as described in the Village's Comprehensive Plan and advises on matters related to businesses in the Village.
  • Pathway Committee (PC): The PC reviews all pathway plans and focuses on the development and interconnection of all pathways in the Village.

The CSCC and Pathway Committee currently have openings and are looking for additional members. More information on the committees and volunteer opportunities can be found here. Those interested can complete the Volunteer Profile online, or contact Sherry Shlagman at 847-634-9440 or sshlagman@longgroveil.gov.
Collection Box for Clothing and Textiles Donations
The Village has installed a collection box in the Archer Municipal Parking Lot at Archer Road and Robert Parker Coffin Road to accept donations of new and gently used clothing and household textiles. The collection program aims at increasing community-wide recycling in partnership with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO). Accepted items include women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, coats, hats, backpacks, blankets, towels and other textiles. Click here for a more detailed list. Please note that shoes, boots, pillows, rugs, cushions, foam mats and furniture are some of the items that are not accepted. Donations can be placed directly in the box, which is open 24/7, or next to it in sealed plastic bags. Nearly 95% of the materials collected are estimated to be repurposed, reused, or recycled, instead of ending up in our landfills. For information on how to recycle shoes through the Reuse-A-Shoe program, click this link.
Sunset Foods Marks 10 Years in Long Grove
Sunset Foods in the Sunset Grove Shopping Center is celebrating its 10-year anniversary! The family-owned business has been a valued asset in Long Grove since January of 2011.

“Sunset offers a full-service approach, along with unique, high-quality food - and has been a strong anchor, attracting many businesses to Sunset Grove over the last decade,” said Village President Bill Jacob. “We not only value it for its economic contributions, but also because of its strong local involvements, such as fundraising support for scouts and offering their breakroom for public meeting space, which serve to strengthen the fabric of our community.”

The business was founded in 1937 and operates four other store locations in Lake Forest, Libertyville, Northbrook and Highland Park.

Organizers request that all participants wear face covers or masks and practice social distancing. Advance registration is required to participate; click here for more information.
