MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES:
Online help for students and families
The outbreak of COVID-19 can result in stress, especially for students who may be struggling to process fear and anxiety related to the virus.  FVSD's Support Services team of School Counselors and School Psychologists has compiled information on our site which may be helpful for students and families.  Included are resources for talking to students about COVID-19 and coping with stress.  Moreover, links and information on FVSD's mental health and wellness resources, including CareSolace, Outreach Concern and our middle school counselors, are available.  Lastly, there are a number of community healthy partners and emergency resources included for our families.  For all of our mental health and wellness resources, please visit our site here.

Happy Tuesday!

As you begin your second "official" day of Winter Recess, and head into the two last weeks of 2020, we want to continue to wish everyone a safe, healthy, relaxing and enjoyable holiday!  2020 was a year like no other, and we are extremely proud of how we have navigated this unprecedented situation, together.  Thank you to our students, staff, parents and community for your ongoing support, patience, courage and commitment to ensuring we were one of the first school districts to bring students back to campus in the state, while also providing a full-time virtual program for almost 1,600 students.  We always talk about how special FVSD is, and I can think of no other time where our values of high expectation, collaboration, commitment to learning, and focusing on all students has been more evident!  Please accept our deep and sincere gratitude for being a part of it!!

In this issue, we are happy to:
  • Welcome new Trustee Steve Schultz
  • Thank and celebrate President Jeanne Galindo
  • Honor Principal Erik Miller on receipt of the Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award
  • Wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday break!
Thank you for all that you continue to do to support teaching and learning!

Kindly,

Mark Johnson, Ed.D.
Superintendent

WELCOME: New Trustee Steve Schultz Takes Oath of Office to Join FVSD Board of Trustees
Steve Schultz Joins Board

On Thursday, December 17th at their Annual Organizational Meeting, the Board of Trustees joined the FVSD Family in welcoming new Trustee, Steve Schultz.  Mr. Schultz took the Oath of Office after being elected to the Board during the November 2020 election.  He joins Mrs. Galindo in serving a four-year term through 2024.  Mr. Schultz is a familiar face in Fountain Valley, having attended Gisler, Masuda and Fountain Valley High School (FVHS).  In addition, he is a current English Language Arts teacher at FVHS and long time contributor to Fountain Valley Living Magazine, having authored a column for many years.  He noted, "It's a full circle moment to be a School Board Trustee of the same district I attended as a student. I feel blessed to get to team up with my fellow Trustees and work with our Superintendent, Dr. Johnson.  I'm grateful to the citizens of Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach for voting for me and allowing me to step in that sacred space where the dreamer meets the dream."  Congratulations, Mr. Schultz and welcome the FVSD Family!
