Hello PH Families,
As our secondary learners; 6-12th grade students, teachers and staff begin returning to the school buildings for hybrid learning starting tomorrow, February 22, I am reminded of the many emotions that all of us navigated just a month ago. I wish them the best on this next phase of learning.
It also gives me pause and reflect on our journey as Peter Hobart Community. I am so proud of our students, teachers, staff and families who have really been the trailblazers throughout this process as we learn together. Elementary has been the first to do DLA, first to return to school in hybrid, and first to return to school full time in the building. I know that these different transitions would not have happened as successfully without being in relationship together. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your child's journey.
This week our amazing PTO is finishing out this month of "PH LOVES SLP" with a Spirit Week! So I hope that you will join me in a week of raising the spirits of this incredible community. Please see below for the daily festivities and have a wonderful week!

News from Health Services

A Message from Health Services Regarding COVID-19
In an effort to keep our community’s COVID-19 spread down, the District will continue to follow guidelines set in place by the Minnesota Department of Health. Although COVID-19 rates are decreasing, Hennepin County continues to have high levels of community transmission (defined by the Minnesota Department of Health as greater than 10 cases per 10,000).
Students and staff should not come to school if they are ill or if anyone in their household is ill. The District continues to follow a 10 day isolation period for individuals with illness symptoms and a 14 day quarantine for those exposed to COVID-19 or exposed to an ill household member.
We ask that students and staff report illness symptoms to their school health office. Health office staff will review exclusion guidance and determine isolation and/or quarantine dates. The illness exclusion document that is used in our schools can be viewed here.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students, staff, and community safe.

COVID-19 Travel Warnings & Restrictions
|
|
With the President’s Day long weekend and spring break coming up March 27-April 4, the Human Resources Department is providing information to staff regarding travel. Travel that puts you and your family at risk is discouraged by the CDC and MDH. It is important and the responsibility of all staff to review and comply with the current state and federal travel regulations. If you travel outside the state or country for any reason, do what you can to protect yourself and your family.
The COVID-19 landscape is changing day-by-day and further travel restrictions or enforcement could be put in place if health conditions deteriorate. Last week, President Biden signed a new executive order requiring a negative COVID test within three days of travel to the U.S., and one week of quarantine after international travel. CDC Guidelines currently include this requirement: “all air passengers coming to the United States, including U.S. citizens, are required to have a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before they board a flight to the United States.” Changes like this could make a return to the U.S. difficult, as you will need to find a health care provider in an unfamiliar place to give you a test and confirmation of the result.
With all that in mind, your presence at school is critical to ensure continued educational opportunities for our students. If a quarantine is necessary due to voluntary travel over these breaks, the district will consider each situation on a case-by-case basis to determine if the quarantine time will be paid or unpaid time off. A quarantine or illness following elective travel will not automatically qualify for the district’s voluntary COVID-Sick paid leave.
As a district, we will continue to monitor the state and federal guidance as we navigate the trajectory of the pandemic. We encourage you to also continue to monitor guidance regarding all travel plans. We all have a role to play in reducing the spread of COVID-19, let’s count on each other to keep our schools open and our community safe.

Free Groceries for Families Who Qualified for Free or Reduced-Price Meals During the 2020-21 School Year
Families in our district who qualify for free or reduced-price meals are now eligible for additional emergency nutritional benefits offered from the Federal government.
These benefits are provided by Federal “Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer” funds (P-EBT); a temporary food benefit to families with children who would have received free and reduced-price meals if schools were open. These additional benefits may be retroactive to September 2020, depending on when eligibility for free or reduced-meals is determined.
Families who qualify will receive separate electronic grocery cards for each student in the family. The cards would include funds (approximately $6.82/day) for each day your student was in distance learning during the school year. Cards will be mailed from the State of Minnesota in late March 2021.
If you have already qualified for free or reduced-price meals earlier this school year, you don’t need to do anything because your family will automatically receive these new Federal nutritional benefits.
