AADC December 2020
Enews & Douglass Alumnae Highlights
The Associate Alumnae of Douglass College sends holiday greetings and warm wishes to you and your loved ones this holiday season. As a network of diverse women, we have strengthened our bonds during an unprecedented time of struggles and hope during the global COVID-19 health crisis and the expanding national conversation about racial injustices and inequities.
The AADC continues to offer new and meaningful ways for our alumnae community to stay connected and engaged with each other and with the AADC to keep our Mission in Motion.

We invite you to enjoy our uplifting video, "Sharing a Look Back," features pictures from some of our programs and events over the last year, including the many virtually-hosted programs, workshops and events we have come to know. As we each reflect on this year, our alumnae community look towards the future. We will soon be celebrating our milestone 100th anniversary of the AADC in June 2022.

Please stay safe, healthy and connected.

Jewel Cobb Road Honors Legacy of Dr. Jewel Plummer Cobb; Advocate for Women in Education and Science
The AADC Board of Directors proudly shares that the Falmouth, MA, Select Board voted unanimously in November to name a street in the nearby renowned scientific community of Woods Hole in honor of Dr. Jewel Plummer Cobb. Dr. Cobb was the sixth Dean of Douglass College, serving from 1976-1981. She was the first African-American to be appointed Dean of Douglass.

The naming will go into effect in June when her son, Dr. Roy Jonathan Cobb, and his family expect to attend the dedication ceremony for Jewel Cobb Road.

Dr. Cobb began a life-long connection to the Woods Hole scientific community when she did research in the summer of 1949 at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole on Cape Cod. She later became a member in 1972 before becoming an emeritus member until her death in January 2017.

“My mother would be thrilled,” says her son, a retired neuroradiologist currently teaching biology part-time on the undergraduate level. Click here to read full announcement.
We Are Only Missing YOUR Story
Since June, we have published stories online from alumnae who have made changes and are coping with different challenges as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. These stories have ranged from poignant to practical. We would love to share YOUR story with your alumnae sisters. Are you dealing with school changes for your children or grandchildren? Have you completely revamped your business as a result of the pandemic or started a new one? What’s new, different, challenging and worth sharing? We would love to hear from you. Put the AADC Mission in Motion While You Shop
It sounds like a rhetorical question, but do you shop online at Amazon? With more online shopping than ever during the pandemic, many people have upped their online shopping game. But did you know that every time you buy something, a small donation from that purchase can be sent to the AADC? AmazonSmile is a simple way to support your favorite charitable organization every time you shop, at no cost to you.

First, go to smile.amazon.com and designate the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College as the recipient of your donation. Then shop as you always do, using your existing account information. There is no charge for the service, so you won’t pay extra for your purchases, and the AADC will receive a donation from your shopping.

Start – or continue – shopping on Amazon and let the dollars mount up for the AADC! Please note that AmazonSmile donations to the AADC do not benefit NJC, DRC, Douglass or Rutgers. They benefit the AADC and help keep our mission in motion. Thank you.
