during worship this Sunday,

I am heading out for some vacation today. Nothing fancy, just a change of scenery with social distancing in a new place. I need a break, and I'm grateful to have one. One of the things I'm going to try to do is to ignore my phone for a bit. This pandemic has found my phone in my hands too often again. I didn't have time to write a rambling for this week before leaving today, so I've pulled one from six years ago that deals with the same tension around my phone. Apparently, I didn't gain as much ground as I had hoped back in 2014. Or at least I didn't hold that ground. In truth, distractions are a good thing with so much challenging news, but even so, there's a balance. Here's hoping I can find some of that again this week. If you could use some, I hope you can find it, too!
I love my smart phone, perhaps too much. One of my growing edges is to learn to put it down more often. It's something I've been doing better with, but which still presents a challenge. An attachment to cell phone - smart phones in particular - leads to a distracted life.

Back to Worship Survey - We Need Your Input |
|
Friends, we are looking forward to offering some in-person worship opportunities in the first half of July in accordance with diocesan policies. Although these plans could change, based on shifting information about the pandemic, we are making arrangements for exactly how we will gather when the time comes.
We need your input, as we make these decisions, and encourage you to fill out the survey linked below. Your responses will help the staff and Vestry determine the best way to proceed. We will take survey response and diocesan guidelines and create a specific plan and timetable for Christ Church. It is our intent to communicate that plan in the coming weeks, at least two weeks before any return to in-person worship. Thank you for your help by filling out this important survey.
Please help us by sharing your opinions and thoughts in the survey
HERE.

Father's Day 2020 - Last Call for Photos! |
|
Father's Day is this Sunday and we would like to honor our fathers and those who have mentored and cared for us like fathers, with a photo tribute during our Sunday morning worship service, on June 21, 2020. If you would like to honor or remember your loved one during this service, please send your photos to Julie at
[email protected], along with the gentlemen's names and we will include them in the tribute that week.
Please have your photos in by 12:00 NOON, on Thursday, June 18. If you do not have a digital image to submit, you can bring an actual photo to the church office and we will convert it. Please put the photo into a waterproof Ziploc bag and put that into a bag or mailing envelope that is
clearly marked with your name, your father's name, your phone number and your email address, so we can make sure to get your photo back to you. If the office is locked, please leave the envelope on the front porch of the Parish House. Thank you!

Racial Justice and Healing - How to Learn More |
|
If you want to learn about how we can work toward racial justice and healing, here's a good suggestion from the Diocese of Georgia.
R
ead and Discuss
Just Mercy
This book by Bryan Stevenson was the Diocese of Georgia's book for Lent 2019, but if you didn't get a chance to participate in that study, you might enjoy reading this book now, perhaps along with family and friends. Bishop Logue has created study this guide to go along with the book. It is available to download HERE.
In this coming of age memoir, Stevenson recounts his early career and the cases that led him to found the Equal Justice Initiative. He worked through the United States Supreme Court to prohibit sentencing children under 18 to death or to life imprisonment without parole. Stevenson has assisted in cases that have saved dozens of prisoners from the death penalty, advocated for poor people, and developed community-based reform litigation aimed at improving the administration of criminal justice.
The book is available in paperback and as an audio-book read by the author. There are also several copies available for purchase in the Christ Church Book Shop. If you'd be interested in obtaining one, please contact Glenn Queener at 912-638-8683.

ECW Grants Announced |
|
Who are those masked women?! Why it's (L-R) Beryl Blatchford, ECW Treasurer; Susie Henning and Tami Black, TOH 2020 Co-Chairs; and Kathryn Saunders, ECW President
|
|
The Christ Church ECW is proud to announce the award of $35,000 in grants this week to area organizations. The proceeds are the result of the generosity from Tour of Homes patrons, sponsors, donated 2020 Tour of Homes ticket sales and ECW's Christ Church Frederica Cookbook sales.
"Although it is unfortunate the 67th TOH had to be canceled, we are most grateful for the tremendous support shown by our church family, homeowners and dedicated volunteers," commented Susie Henning, this year's chair.
"We were most concerned about our beneficiaries and the challenges they will face with reduced funding. It is our hope the grants will help make a difference," Henning added.
Twenty-eight local programs will receive grants this year. The complete list can be found
HERE.
We would like to thank the ToH committee, patrons, and homeowners. A special acknowledgement goes to our generous sponsors:
Platinum Sponsor (DeLoach Sotheby's International Realty), Silver Sponsors (Restoration Imports, RIghton Books, Clearview Exterior Washing & Window Cleaning) and Bronze Sponsors (Empire Sky Co., Seaside Eyes) Sponsors; along with our Benefactors: (Patrons, Supporters, Friends, Angels) and ticket-purchasers who chose to convert their purchase to a donation.
Christ
Church and the ECW would also like to extend a big thank you to Co-Chairs Susie Henning and Tami Black and the dedicated TOH team for all their hard work in putting together the 2020 Tour of Homes and then for dismantling it quickly and as painlessly as possible.

Backpack Buddies and Glynn Episcopal Ministries - Getting Food to Those Who Need It |
He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep." - John 21:17
The Christ Church Backpack Buddies continue to partner with fellow churches, Glynn County Schools and other food ministries, especially Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, to provide food for the most vulnerable citizens of Glynn County, including children, homeless teenagers and the elderly. As always, we are deeply grateful all our generous sponsors and our committed and caring set-up crews, packers, drivers and delivery volunteers, who keep this mission going week after week! THANK YOU!
If you can help the Backpack Buddies with a few items, this week's wish list includes:
* PAPER GROCERY BAGS
(We need 100 bags per week, with or without handles!)
* Fruit Cups
* Vienna Sausages
* Beanee Weenees
*Plastic Grocery Bags
We are alway grateful for your donations! Any and all items may be dropped off on the front porch at the Christ Church Parish House.
