Board Update
We hope that everyone has enjoyed a wonderful extended weekend in honor of Presidents' Day and Admissions Day! With the excitement of the long weekend feeding into last week, we wanted to send our Board Update at the start of this new week to ensure you did not miss the wonderful information we have to share with you from our last Board of Education meeting.

At our most recent and regularly scheduled meeting held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, the San Marino Unified Board of Education heard information about several great items related to services for our students, staff, and families, as well as exciting staff development we have underway in our district, and more. Click here to listen to a digital audio recording of the full meeting, and click here to view documents related to the various agenda items.

Care Solace - Proposed General Service Agreement (Information Item)

Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure the mental health and well-being of our students. As part of that commitment, we welcomed information about a proposed service, Care Solace , whose mission is to increase access to mental health resources as based on families' insurance needs, location of services, and scheduling availability. On average, Care Solace's program has seen a 63% increase in students and families receiving mental health services. Information for those who use the service is kept confidential, with school districts only tracking the total utilization of services. This service would be able to be used by any of our San Marino Unified students, families, and staff.

Professional Development Presentation (Information Item)

We truly have the best teachers around, and we remain committed to providing them with the tools and professional development they need to be successful in their classrooms and beyond.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a pedagogy that seeks to use a variety of teaching methods to remove any barriers to learning and give all students equal opportunities to succeed. It aims to build in flexibility that can be adjusted for each student's strengths and needs, which ultimately benefits every student. Our teachers are being provided time for training, joining educators across the San Gabriel Valley in learning the best and most effective ways to bolster the success of students. 2020-21 District Sunshine Proposal for Contract Negotiations between the San Marino Unified School District and the California School Employees Association (CSEA) Local Chapter #120 (Information Item)

As required by federal law, the first step toward contract negotiations between the District and its employee associations is to "sunshine" or publicly make available the District's proposal for topics of negotiation, which was done at our January 28, 2020 meeting. We then placed the proposals for Board discussion and approval on our February 11, 2020 meeting agenda. Click the following links to view the District's sunshine proposals for CSEA and SMTA . Our Board approved the district's 2020-21 Sunshine Proposals. The next step in this process will see CSEA and SMTA providing their respective sunshine proposals.
