Nutritious Breakfast in Ganon Bet
As part of our unit on nutrition, the children in Ganon Bet learned about the five food groups that make up a healthy plate (grains, proteins, fruits, vegetables, and dairy.)
The unit culminated this week with a nutritious breakfast which included foods from all five food groups.  The children even made their own fresh-squeezed orange juice!  They came to school in their pajamas, and brought their favorite cuddly stuffed animals for the occasion.
Whoever said that meal time can't be fun and healthy at the same time!

Purim is Coming!
Purim is underway in Gan Bet! The children have begun writing their own מגילות and acting/illustrating the different scenes in the Purim story. We have also been working on a character analysis of the 5 main characters of the Purim story in עברית and we have been discussing what makes these characters unique and important. Next week we will be making an ארמון שושן in our class and we are very excited to learn about the 4 מצוות of Purim!

TerraNovas  will be given to students in grades 2 through 5 through Tuesday, February 25th and to 6th and 7th grade students through Friday, February 21st.  All TerraNovas take place in the morning.

Studying Parshat Mikeitz
In 4B this week we have been working on a final project for Parshat Mikeitz perek 42. Students chose 10 psukim that they felt best represented the entire perek and created a presentation with those psukim using various apps on their iPads. Students were very creative when showing their understanding of the psukim that we learned together and it was such a great tool for them to portray what they learned!

Class 3D Takes Virtual Reality Trips!
Did you know that Central Park is beautiful this time of year? So is Capitol Hill!  3D went to visit both of these famous landmarks this week and it was amazing!! Using the phenomenal VR slides on Nearpod, 3D took virtual reality trips to Central Park and the Capitol Building as part of our "Oh, The Places 3D Will Go" project. We learned so many new and interesting facts about both places.  As the weather begins to warm, we can't wait to visit the Colosseum in Rome, Italy and the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. It is going to be a busy travel season this year for 3D and we hope to see you all there soon. Bon Voyage!!

Fifth Graders Study Survival
The fifth graders are investigating the theme of survival. This week, the students dissected owl pellets in order to determine the predator's diet. The students discovered that the owls preyed upon lots of small rodents, based upon the bones found in the owl pellets. Student will use the hands-on activity to further their class discussions on the food chain, the effect of ecosystem changes, and their survival-themed fantasy novels. The hands-on science activity created a memorable Yavneh moment that students are sure to remember.

Head of International Seminars at Yad Vashem in Yerushalayim Addresses 8th Grade
Our 8th graders had the privilege this morning of hearing from Rabbi Moshe Cohn, the head of International Seminars at Yad Vashem in Yerushalayim.  With Rosh Chodesh Adar approaching, Rabbi Cohn presented our students with a window into Jewish strength during the Shoah, with a specific focus on their determination to continue celebrating the joyous holiday of Purim even during the dark days of the Holocaust.  Rabbi Cohn pointed out that when we say that Hashem performed miracles for us ba-yamim ha-hem ba-zman ha-zeh, in those days and in our days, that this idea helped to inspire the Jews living through tragedy and that their mesirat nefesh should be an inspiration for all of us.
