The Pain Assessment and Management Initiative (PAMI) at the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville has new pain-related resources which may be of value to your organization.
Over-the-Counter Patient Education Brochures for Topical and Oral Analgesic Medications
Navigating OTC pain medication products can be confusing for patients who are met with hundreds of products on pharmacy and store shelves. Several recent surveys have demonstrated that consumers do not always understand the safe use of OTC products. Counseling patients of effective options can help to improve this educational gap.
The PAMI team developed patient education brochures to provide an overview of popular topical and oral products, including dosing and precaution information. Emergency, trauma and pain physicians and pharmacists were consulted in product development.
The available brochures include:
Topical agents
-
Lidocaine
-
Diclofenac
-
Counterirritants (IcyHot, Biofreeze, Tiger Balm, etc.)
Oral medications
-
Acetaminophen
-
Ibuprofen
-
Naproxen
View the PAMI website to access the complete discharge planning toolkit and download the OTC brochures to use or adapt for your patient population.
