Gratitude.
For our community.
For creative solutions.
For your ability to adapt to the challenges we face.
For the joy we experience as teachers and students.
For the flexibility, contentment and inner peace the practice gives us all.

As the days shorten and the weather has grown wetter and colder, we have the opportunity to retreat, go inside and possibly explore more yoga. We are excited to be able to support you in building and maintaining your Yoga practice throughout the Winter months.

Thank You All for your continued support of Paxson Yoga Center, Happy Holidays.

Winter Term registration has begun! The twelve-week term begins the week of January 4; last day of classes is March 27. All our classes are happening over Zoom, and if state and local guidelines allow, some of them will have space in the studio for a handful of socially-distanced students. See the schedule here. Contact the office (503.223.8157) to register.

Early-bird pricing of $198 for one class ($356.40 for one person taking two classes) is valid through December 20. On December 21, the price increases to $210 for one class ($378 for one person taking two classes).

Christina Bernunzio, who has been teaching our Community Classes, will be taking over the Level 2 class on Wednesday evenings at 6:00pm.

We will be expanding our Community Class offerings in the Winter. More details coming soon!
New Student Special
If you have never taken Term classes with us before, or you know someone who would benefit from the practice, we now have a New Student Special! This discount is half off the first term class ($99 for Winter) and 20% off props and special focus classes during your first term.
During the three weeks between Fall and Winter Terms, we will be offering blended-level drop-in classes for you to attend as your schedule allows.

In the interest of student safety, we are moving all the Holiday Drop-In classes to Zoom. All classes will be recorded and sent to everyone who is registered for the class. Reservations can be made online using your Summer/Holiday Pass up to 15 minutes before class begins. If your plans change, be sure to cancel yourself out of class at least an hour before so your pass doesn’t get used. Sign up here.
THREE COURSE MEAL FOR BEGINNERS & ADVANCED BEGINNERS

Traditionally, we don't hold classes during the week of Thanksgiving. This year, we bundled three pre-recorded 90-minute classes to nourish you and your practice over the break week!

This 'Three-Course Meal' includes a Gratitude practice with Denise, a Thanksgiving Preparation class with Laila, and a class for Digestion and Recovery with Beth. And as a bonus, you will receive a Gratitude Guided Meditation with Hope.

You may book these bundles for $30 in either Beginning or Advanced Beginning Levels at any time between now and December 13, when they will expire. You will receive an email with the links to the classes when you complete your purchase. Click here to sign up.

Continuing Education for Yoga Teachers

Chances are that you have students who have been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis, as it seems to be more prevalent than ever. Maybe you have concerns about your own bone health, especially if you are post-menopausal.
Come learn more about the diagnosis of osteoporosis and osteopenia and how yoga can be used to build bone strength. Research from Dr. Loren Fishman and his 12 yoga poses (A featured story in the NYT in 2015), to be done daily to build bone strength will be presented, as well as how to modify these poses for students of varying abilities.

It is the intent of this course that teachers will come to understand which poses are contraindicated vs. which poses are indicated, as well as the proper alignment for the indicated poses.

3 CE credits are available with Yoga Alliance.
Saturday, December 5
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
$60

After a lifetime of wearing shoes, most Westerners come to yoga with stiff toes, poor foot awareness, and weak support muscles in our arches and ankles. In this class, we’ll start by improving our foot awareness, helping you learn about any misalignments and bad habits you may have. We’ll then move on to simple exercises to build strength, flexibility, and balance in your feet, whether you have flat feet or excessively high arches. Finally, we’ll apply your new alignment awareness to common standing poses.

**This course is appropriate for our Level 3 students and above, or anyone with at least a year of practice.

2 CE credits are available with Yoga Alliance.

Laila explores the question - What if we opened up to groundlessness? To find out how she answers this question click here.

Over on the Paxson Yoga Center Facebook and Instagram pages in October, we explored the theme of "Grounding":
Caroline offered a Grounding Exercise for Anywhere
Denise led us through a Grounding Meditation
Laila explored the idea of embracing groundlessness and
Julie gave yoga tips about grounding through our feet and our hands in poses.
And a bonus "grounding pose" demonstration from Molly, cat of PYC Community Members Becky and Jennifer.

~ Closing ~
Our yoga practice is never the same two days in a row. Our bodies have aged another day, we have taken in new knowledge, and our hearts and minds experienced the joys and strains of our emotions and conversations.

As we move back to online learning, take time to notice these minute changes and moments of growth. Look for comfort in impermanence and treasure the practice as it is now. Each new day brings a new practice.

Namaste, Amelia
