Town of Orangetown
Your weekly news & updates
Dear Residents -

It is hard to believe that we are only one week away from Halloween and Day Light Savings time. To think, we are only ten weeks away from New Year’s Eve, the start of 2021 and the end of my first year as your Town Supervisor. To say that my first year was not what I expected would be an understatement. While it has been challenging to say the least, I have never been more proud of the residents and businesses of Orangetown.

During “Pause,” you rallied to raise money for the food pantries by participating in our Virtual 5k. This time around, we sent out a call to help save Halloween for our children and again you did not disappoint. Donations poured into Town Hall – offers of time, checks, candy and more! I am proud to live in a town where we look out for each other and our neighbors, and am privileged to be your Supervisor.

The weatherman tells me that tonight and all day tomorrow promises to be great - so get out there and enjoy the sun and the foliage before winter starts to set in. And if you're looking for something to do tonight, the 2021 Penguin Plunge will be fundraising for 12 year old Louis Caputo of Orangeburg and 2 year old Elijah Torres of Valley Cottage with a concert in Veteran's, starting at 7:00pm. They're bringing back the original Boys in the Attic band, with Jules and Sammi Quinn stepping in for their father, Michael Quinn.

So, whatever you have on tap for your weekend, go and enjoy it. Remember to continue to social distance, wear your masks and wash your hands.

Respectfully,
Teresa M. Kenny

Remembering Sgt. Edward O'Grady, PO Waverly "Chip" Brown and Brinks Guard Peter Paige
The 39th anniversary of the brinks robbery that took the lives of Nyack Police Sergeant Edward O’Grady, Police Officer Waverly Brown and Brinks guard Peter Paige.

It is important that we never forget the sacrifice that these men made and to appreciate the dangers that law enforcement officers face every day when they walk out the door to serve and protect us.

Special thanks to the Rockland County PBA for hosting the ceremony and honoring their memory.
The renaming of Kings Highway, between Route 303 and Greenbush Road is hereby designated as “Rev. John F. Dwyer Drive."

Rev. John F. Dwyer was ordained in 1956 and joined the US Air Force as their Chaplin and served overseas in Turkey, Okinawa, Germany, The Phillipines and England. He also served eight stateside bases.

In his 25 years at Sacred Heart, Rev. John F. Dwyer built a new church and rectory while inviting the priests of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri to become an integral part of the parish which insured the continued vitality not only of OLSH but also of St. John’s in Piermont; St. Ann’s in Nyack and St. Paul’s in Valley Cottage-Congers.
Make sure you mark your calendars and SAVE the DATE for Friday, October 30th.

We're hosting a Halloween Drive-By Trick or Treating Event and everyone under the age of 13, dressed in costume, is welcomed.

With COVID-19 and all the restrictions in place, we wanted to make sure our children got to enjoy a bit of Halloween.

So come by and get some candy and see a really scary sight - some public officials dressed in costumes.
Please join the Orangetown PBA in their inaugural stair climb to honor the memory of those lost in the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks and those heroes that so bravely responded that day. Due to the COVID-19 issues participants must climb stairs on their own. This can be done on a stair climbing machine located at most gyms, bleachers, or in an office building that is open to you. Please register first than go climb those stairs!!
Bid on beautiful artwork created by talented artists!
