Varsity Soccer and Basketball Begin '19-20 Regular Seasons Tuesday

High School Basketball teams tip off the '19-20 season on Tuesday 11/26 as they visit Superior HS. Arete Prep will play it's first ever JV girls game at 2:30pm, followed by JV boys (4:00), Varsity Girls (5:30), and Varsity boys (7:00). The mens varsity Chargers will once again be led by Coach Michael Caviness, who led them to the most successful season in school history in '18-19, winning the 1A East Region Tournament, and advancing all the way to the state quarterfinals. Arete did graduate 10 seniors, and most of their scoring. They will rely heavily on juniors Brandon Fish and Toni Atolagbe to lead the offense.

The womens varsity, led by Coach Jacob Howell, played a ton of summer basketball and look to build off an 8 win season last year. They return 2nd team all region players Alissa Kassabaum (Soph) and Mariah Dominguez (Soph).

Mens Varsity Soccer is a year more expreienced, bigger, faster, and will no doubt improve from their 1 win season in '18-19. They open up by hosting AZ Lutheran Tuesday, at 4:00pm. The Chargers still feature a young core including Davis Weir, Enoch Odedina, Caleb Richards, and Connor Fornoff. Senior Captain Brady Wertl will anchor the back line. New Sophomore transfers Cole Ray and Magnus Seco will give the Charger lineup a big boost.

New Head Coach Doug Whitehead takes over the girls program from longtime Coach Christina Browning. Coach Whitehead returns the core of last years competitive group, including Tania and Julianna Davidson, Bryn Hager, and Lillie Whitehead. Senior Captain Helen Letizia was a standout as GK for the Chargers last season. The Chargers have their largest numbers in program history, and willl look to play a possession style of soccer. They open up with a match against cross town GH rival Lincoln Prep on Tuesday, at home, at 6pm.

Gooooooo Chargers!
