The summer is going by so quickly.  We find ourselves in the last of the summer months with many of you on vacation and holiday.  We thought as you take a moment to refresh, you might want to see what our team has been up to.  

Several months ago, a few of us at Alfano Law Office noticed the frequency with which our office fights municipalities to protect property rights.  Property rights are more than just things in your home or office.  They include the right to use and develop land, the right to be paid full market value should the government take your property through eminent domain, and the right to due process before a town can change the legal status of your street.  Read full article.

Water and ground pollution are being discussed everywhere as more research is done discovering the harmful effects of certain commonly used chemicals. Here in New Hampshire, the Department of Environmental Services (DES) is working to implement new, lower, allowable levels of certain perfluoro-chemicals in drinking water. The rule making proposal was submitted earlier this summer after extensive research, and if approved by the Joint Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules (JLCAR) will take effect on October 1, 2019. While these rules only apply to public water systems, DES is encouraging private well owners to have their wells tested against the new standards.  Read full article

Residential and commercial land development comes with an entire slew of  potential issues, not the least of which is stormwater runoff and potential damaging effects.  Local, state, and federal regulations impose requirements on developers to plan for stormwater runoff when constructing developments to prevent future damage to structures, land, and surrounding areas.  One of the most commonly used methods of preventing stormwater runoff and damage in modern developments is the use of man-made ponds; specifically, via detention and/or retention ponds.  Real full article.

NH Property Tax Calendar and Key Dates

July 1
Deadline for municipalities to grant (partially or fully) or deny an abatement request.  Failure of the municipality to take any action by this date shall be deemed a denial.  If the municipality grants a partial abatement, the taxpayer may request an appeal for the portion of the request not granted.
