AIA Releases Updated Construction Management Contract Documents
Just released today, November 15th, the American Institute of Architects has released 13 new and updated Construction Management (CM) documents, including the Construction Manager as Constructor (CMc) and the Construction Manager as Adviser (CMa) families.

CMcs are brought on in the beginning of the preconstruction phase of a project to provide collaboration and input, which allows for greater efficiency from project inception. They also perform the construction.

The AIA Documents Committee also met with industry representatives to obtain input for updating the Construction Manager as Adviser (CMa) documents. In this model, the CMa provides preconstruction phase collaboration but does not provide the construction. The CMa documents will be released on February 6, 2020. Read more here .
Call for Public Input: NFPA 70B® Recommended Practice for Maintaining Electrical Equipment
NFPA 70B® Recommended Practice for Maintaining Electrical Equipment  details preventive maintenance for electrical, electronic, and communication systems and equipment -- such as those used in industrial plants, institutional and commercial buildings, and large multi-family residential complexes -- to prevent equipment failures and worker injuries.

Because major revisions are anticipated for the next edition as a transition from a recommended practice to a standard is anticipated, this standard is gaining significant industry attention. Click here to get involved in the review process and submit your input.
2020 MIOSHA Working Day Calendar Now Available
Each year, the MIOSHA Appeals Division prepares a calendar to assist employers with correctly calculating working day deadlines. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act contains many deadlines which only count “working days.”

A “working day” is uniquely defined to be a day other than a Saturday, Sunday or state legal holiday. A state legal holiday is not the same thing as a state employee holiday. For instance, State of Michigan employees traditionally receive the day after Thanksgiving off work as a paid holiday. However, the day after Thanksgiving is not a state legal holiday. This can become confusing for employers when trying to sort out which days count toward the deadline and which don’t. The MIOSHA Working Day Calendar takes away the guesswork and shows which dates are working days and which aren’t. Click here to view and print the 2019 and 2020 MIOSHA Working Day Calendars.
