Join Us for Online Worship This Sunday!
Worship Leader: Rev. Patricia Hart

"On Changing Minds and Hearts"
So many issues surround us right now - all of them urgent. It's hard to know where to look, who to follow... how best to use the small voice each of us has, to do the most good. How do we convince anybody of anything? How is it that minds are changed?

Join us for online worship at uusociety.org/worship-and-music/online-sunday-worship at 10 a.m. All services are also available on our YouTube channel

First UU Society Autumn Auction
The Autumn Auction is upon us. Our goal with the auction is always to bring us together, so we are looking for donations that build community... food, gatherings (appropriately safe), services, arts and crafts, and gift certificates that support out larger community as well. So please think about what you can do or give to connect to others. We can accept donations for the auction until the first week of November. All bidding will be online from November 7 to 21You can go to the website now to register to bid and to see the generous items that have already been donated, and come back to see the new additions. The auction website is: auctria.com/auction/FUUSBtogether

If you have any questions or wish to donate, please email [email protected]. We'll add your donation to the website.

The holiday wreath sale will also be part of the auction. More details on wreaths soon.

Thank you for helping us keep this tradition and bring our community together in fun, faith, and fellowship.

Dan House, FUUSB Board of Trustees President

African American History Walking Tour
Linda Cooper, Racial Justice Team

Your Racial Justice Team brings you a walking tour:
African American History at Lakeview Cemetery - October 17, 1:30-3 p.m.

This tour acquaints you with some of the African descended people in Lakeview Cemetery. While we explore this little-known part of Burlington's long history, you meet barbers, housekeepers, soldiers, market owners and others to reveal a small but vibrant black community in the Queen City during the 19th and 20th centuries. Presented by Elise Guyette, author of Discovering Black Vermont: African American Farmers in Hinesburg, 1790-1890. Meet at the entrance to Lakeview Cemetery. Also called Burlington City Cemetery, 455 North Avenue.

Sign up with Linda Cooper, [email protected] or 922-7554. Maximum of 20 people on the tour with a minimum age of 14. Plan to wear a facial mask and be ready to keep a 6 foot distance from others. There is no set fee but we will pass a hat to subsidize the funds the Society is providing. We know you will learn and enjoy this walk!

New UU Getting Acquainted
Sarah Russell, Membership Team Co-Chair

Sunday, October 18, 8:30-10 a.m. on Zoom
This class provides an overview of Unitarian Universalist history and beliefs, including our Seven Principles and Six Sources. It's a great introduction to UUism and also a good way to meet other newcomers. Our Developmental Senior Minister, Rev. Tricia Hart, will attend as will facilitators from our Membership Team. It is designed for people new to our Society and/or new to Unitarian Universalism.

Please register here. This session will be held via Zoom. The link will be emailed to registrants.

Fall Festival!
Erika Reif, Director of Lifespan Faith Development

The YUUTH Group invites younger kids and youth to a fun social event and creative service project on the beautiful Meeting House grounds! Sunday, October 18, 2-4 p.m.
  • Decorate pumpkins that will be delivered to FUUSB members & friends who have been isolated in these times!
  • Play games like corn hole, croquet, ladder toss, and a very special painted pinecone scavenger hunt! YUUTH may share some spooky stories as well.
  • Apples and cider donuts to eat at a distance and goody bags with a little Halloween candy mixed in to take home!
Children under 10 are invited to attend with their parent(s). Kids 10-14 can be dropped off. Registration is encouraged and very helpful for our planning. Same-day registrants will be accommodated as space allows. Group size, youth and staff included, will be limited to 25. Masks and safe social distancing required. On the day of the event be sure to review and affirm our Covid Safety Checklist.

Pumpkin Delivery Needed!
Erika Reif, Director of Lifespan Faith Development

We need individuals or families who would enjoy spreading some seasonal cheer to deliver specially decorated pumpkins to some fellow FUUSBers, between 10/22 and 10/29. Claim a name or several from the list, give them a call in advance to find out the best way to safely make the drop, and then enjoy the opportunity to connect in the real world, even if only a wave through a window. To help, contact Erika: [email protected] or 990-2006.

Care Network Shawl Ministry
Lynn Douglas, Care Network Team Chair

One of the ways your Care Network Team connects with folks who are ill, or have had an accident or a loss, is to gift them with a shawl. These shawls are knit or crocheted by another member who puts love and intention into every beautiful shawl. If you would like to part of this ministry, please contact Lynn Douglas at [email protected] for information on shawls, pick-up, or assistance with purchasing yarn. Thank you!
