Creating opportunities for adults with disabilities since 1974
APRIL 2020 E-NEWSLETTER
A Message From Our Executive Director
Anyone else want to hit the reset button for 2020?

Vocational Visions closed due to the corona virus on March 18, 2020. Safety for our program participants and staff will always be our highest priority.  We don't yet have a re-open date but, as soon as we do, we will get that information to everyone.

Thank you to our direct service staff who have been working in group homes during this time to ensure that people with disabilities are getting the care and supervision needed! Thank you to our managers and administrative staff who have been working remotely to keep vital business operations moving forward!

Let's all please continue to follow the stay at home protocols to do our part in stopping the spread of this virus so that we can all get back to our usual routines as soon as possible. Hopefully, with refreshed enthusiasm and replenished energy.

Until then, please stay safe. Take care of yourself and your loved ones!

Sincerely,
How To Stay Busy While Social Distancing
While California practices sheltering-in-place for the most part to help minimize the spread of Covid-19, our daily routines and ability to socialize have been compromised for everyone. We are especially concerned with ensuring our Vocational Visions participants are finding ways to keep busy during this challenging time.

We would love for EVERYONE to share with us on our Facebook page post what they have been doing to keep busy during this difficult time of social distancing.

Below are a couple of ideas we'd like to share:
Check out thewordsearch.com for free word searches with themes such as Disney characters and TV shows. Print out the word search or do it online. You can also easily make your own word search all for free.
Even though public libraries are closed, you can now listen to audio books online for free at stories.audible.com .
2020 Oso Fit Fun Run A Great Success
This year marks the first time we, as an organization, participated in the Oso Fit Fun Run hosted annually by the city of Mission Viejo. We're happy to announce that we had a total of 29 fun run registrants who selected Vocational Visions as their charity of choice.

Every one who attended had a great time and the weather was perfect. It was wonderful to share the morning with employees, participants and their families.

We also hosted a booth at the adjoining heath fair as we have done in the past. We were fortunate to make some great local community connections.

Thank you to all who supported us and congratulations to our ADP program for having the highest number of employees in attendance. Next year, we aspire to double the participation. Help us meet our goal by joining us on February 27, 2021!
Hand n' Hand Square Dancers

When was the last time you got your do-si-do dance moves on?

Did you know that do-si-do is one of the best known  call s  in square dancing?

Did you know there is a wonderful local club called Hand n' Hand Square Dancers of Mission Viejo?

Currently, 8 members of this club have a direct link to Vocational Visions so we decided to invite them to share with us a little bit about their mission and accomplishments below.
__________________________________________________________

At Hand n' Hand Square Dance Club, we welcome handicapable Individuals 18 years and older that enjoy square dancing and socializing with each other. We meet each Tuesday evenings at the Norman P. Murray Senior Center in Mission Viejo from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

All handicapable Hand ‘n Hand Square Dancers learn mainstream square dancing calls and have “The Best Time Ever!” dancing the night away. Our very own Caller, Ken Johnson, teaches these calls and is assisted by Adam Fanello.

No member is left behind! To ensure each member learns the square dance calls properly, we have partnered with “Angels” from the Ramblin’ Rogues and other plus-level square dance clubs. These Angels serve as partners for our members so they can learn the calls quickly and become proficient square dancers.

As a result, our Hand ‘n Hand members are proud to attend the California State Square Dance Convention annually. Each year that we have attended this event, we have been complimented on our members' dance proficiency and social skills.

Additionally, Hand ‘n Hand members have been asked to put on square dance demonstrations at a local Resource Fair and at the Orange County Fair, where we danced on stage before fair-goers.

Our members and Angels are very social and enjoy spending time with each other. Monthly, we celebrate birthdays and special days such as Valentine's Day, St. Patrick’s Day, 4th of July, and our favorite - Halloween.  We also have annual summer and Christmas parties to celebrate our accomplishments.
