Parents and Families of the Mentor Schools,
Over the past year we have provided monthly articles on a variety of digital citizenship topics. Even though your children are not in school for the summer months, we know that many students may use technology even more during this time. We thought it would be helpful to re-visit some of the most popular stories and links and also provide a few other resources that you might find helpful. Thank you for being a partner with our school district to help keep your children safe while they continue to explore the power of technology and social media.
Digital Citizenship

Mentor Schools is committed to helping our students use technology responsibly. To help all K-12 students become responsible digital citizens, we have implemented the full K-12 Common Sense Media curriculum. Each grade level had five lessons that were taught throughout the school year that emphasized the skills needed to be a responsible digital citizen. Click here to learn more about this curriculum. During the 2019-2020 school year, teachers will now have an opportunity to present updated content by using Nearpod. Nearpod is a classroom tool for teachers to engage students with interactive lessons.
Help Kids Balance Their Media Lives

From phones and tablets to streaming movies and YouTube, tech and media are everywhere. Kids love easy access to shows, games, and information. Parents and caregivers love that kids can learn on the go. But it's easy to overdo it when the phone never stops pinging and the next episode plays automatically. Families can keep media and tech use in check by following a few simple practices.
The New Normal: Parents, Teens, and Devices

The patterns of daily life in the U.S. and around the world have been forever altered by the availability of mobile technology. To truly understand the impact of technology on family relationships, we need to dig deeper into the media habits and attitudes of parents and teens worldwide.
