GGUSD Student Artwork on Display at Art in the Park

THIS WEEKEND: GGUSD's First Impressions Art Awards Ceremonies and Exhibit are back and in-person on Saturday, April 2nd at the Garden Grove Community Center. Awards ceremonies, recognizing the artistic talents of hundreds of students, will be held at 12 pm for preK-6 and 1:15 pm for 7-12. The art gallery will display student artwork in the Courtyard Center from 12 to 6 p.m. and students will perform as part of the city's Art in the Park/Open Streets event! Come for the art and stay for live performances from the Bryant Arts Academy Rock Band at 2 pm, the Northcutt Chorus at 3 pm, and the Bolsa Grande Jazz Band at 4 pm. The city's Open Streets and Art in the Park event has fun activities for all ages.

Garden Grove High School Earns Top Rankings in Academic Pentathlon

The Garden Grove High School Academic Decathlon team was one of only 10 high schools in Orange County invited to compete at the state level in the California Academic Decathlon which took place virtually March 1-12. The Argos earned numerous high rankings in a variety of scholastic categories. This comes after the team placed third overall in Division 1 at the Orange County Academic Decathlon which took place over three consecutive Saturdays in January and included 400 students from 32 schools.

GGUSD Student Lands Role in New Nickelodeon Series

Irvine Intermediate School student Jayden Ham has landed a lead role as the voice of Bossy in Nickelodeon’s new animated series Bossy Bear, a 30-episode preschool series set to air on Nickelodeon in 2023.


Ham has been acting since second grade and also had roles in a short film called Sea of Lights as well as a role in an episode of the Netflix show Making FunBossy Bear, based on a popular book series about an extroverted, imaginative Bear and his introverted, empathetic best friend Turtle, is Ham’s largest role.

Russell Scholars Engage in Lessons about César Chávez

On Thursday, Russell Elementary Language Academy honored César Chávez Day and scholars learned about his life and work and the contributions he made toward social justice.

GGUSD Athletes Bring their All

Garden Grove’s softball team beat Godinez on Wednesday 8-6. With the win, the Argos improve to 12-4 overall and 3-0 in league. They are ranked #5 in CIFSS division 6 and play at Segerstrom tonight, Friday, April 1. Santiago’s baseball team beat La Quinta 8-6 last Friday. With the win, the Cavaliers improve to 4-3 in the Garden Grove league, while La Quinta falls to 1-6.

GGUSD Students Showcase the Art of Dance

This week, dancers across GGUSD were center stage at our 2022 Dance Showcase. Students from Bell Intermediate, Garden Grove HS, La Quinta HS, Los Amigos HS, and Pacifica HS gathered to perform on stage at the Donald R. Wash Memorial Auditorium. Bravo to our dance students and their incredible teachers on a beautiful production!

Hundreds Attend Roadmap to Success Event

Hundreds attended GGUSD's Roadmap to Success event at Rancho Alamitos High School on Monday with students and families attending informative workshops on college planning, financial aid, special education transition services, college scholarships, selecting the right university and more!
