Season of Giving
Outdoor connections are vital for us all, and it's our mission
to make sure everyone has access to them.

Please consider the positive impact trails, open space and nature have brought to you and your family this past year.

Your donation to our Annual Appeal Campaign, now through the end of the year, will help us continue that important work.
REI Wayfinding Grant Project Moving Forward
The first milestone of the Wayfinding Project on the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail, will be completed by month's end. The project is being funded by a grant from REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.).

Using a GPS application, our trained group of volunteers captured the location and photographs of existing signage on the trail, and surrounding roads within a 1/4 mile of the trail.
Daniel Korinth, DGI Volunteer collects wayfinding data.
The data collected will be cataloged and reviewed to reveal what signage is needed or should be improved upon. Next step, Community Engagement to capture your ideas on future signage needs. Stay tuned!
Future Trails of Northern Delaware Coalition
It was a virtual meeting, as meetings go these days, but we were glad to bring the Future Trails of Northern Delaware Coalition together again last month. The group discussed a range of topics; coalition priorities for 2021, a trail usage and safety initiative, updates on trails in progress, as well as updates from members and supporters on work in their communities.
Delaware Greenways announced a Trail Amenities Matching Grant Program made possible by the William Penn Foundation. Grants, open to FTND Coalition members and supporters will provide trail amenities to enhance the trail experience and increase usage. Grants will be awarded in March 2021.

City of Wilmington Installs Bike Lane on the BVNSB

The bike lane on the byway (11th St) continuing east.
Great news for bicyclists on the Brandywine Valley National Scenic Byway, at its starting point in the City of Wilmington. This section, more commonly known as "11th Street", now has a dedicated lane for bicyclists. The new lane is a result of the City of Wilmington's Bike Plan, one objective of which is to design and implement a coordinated and safe bike route network. Once accomplished, the network will be life changing for city residents and commuters. If you're traveling by car in town, be aware of this shared road section. Read the city's bike plan and others.
DelDOT Installs New Signs Along Byways
DelDOT has installed additional signage to the Brandywine Valley National Scenic and Delaware Bayshore Byways, with more to be added before the project is completed. The signs are meant to create awareness for these roads less traveled, and assist all who travel them seeking adventure.

More signs remain to be installed, and also added to our other state byways. Great to see these additions! Keep your eyes on the lookout for them!

DGI Website Update
Thanks to an incredibly generous act of kindness by former Wilmingtonian,
David Tang, and his wife Michelle Tang of Dynasty Consulting in San Jose, California, Delaware Greenways will be launching an updated version of our website in early 2021! We're super excited about the depth of trail and byway content our site visitors will be able to tap into.

Our gratitude to our friends at Dynasty for the hours they've given to the project, goes beyond words. We'll announce when the new version is published, through our Facebook page and mailing list. Make sure you "Like" us on FB or stay tuned here! We promise you're going to love it!
We envision a State where trails, pathways and scenic corridors connect everyone to where they want to go, empowering them to live healthier lives as they discover and enjoy the outdoors.
We hope you spend time with family and friends
outside over the holiday. It's a safer way to connect!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
