Dear Parishioners of Blessed Sacrament Church
(be sure to read this entire letter) :

On Sunday, June 14, 2020, the universal Church will celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, the feast that celebrates the true presence (Body, Blood and Divinity) of Jesus Christ in the Holy Communion (Eucharist). This is both the feast of the universal church and in a more special way the patron feast of our parish “Blessed Sacrament Church.”

Fr. Richard Shanahan, the founding pastor of our parish back in 1921, desired to name our fledgling parish in honor of Sacred Heart but he couldn’t do so since there was another Sacred Heart in the west side of Syracuse. His desire was to dedicate the new parish to the Holy Eucharist and he finally called it the church of the Blessed Sacrament. On the eve of celebrating 100 years of Catholic faith in our parish during 2021, we would like to celebrate the feast of our parish this year in a very ceremonial way by a very simple demonstration of our faith in Blessed Sacrament on the feast of Corpus Christi.

We will be doing a half a mile procession of Blessed Sacrament accompanied by the prayer of the full rosary (20 mysteries of the holy rosary). During the procession of the Blessed Sacrament and the prayer of the full rosary, our parish will be praying for the renewal of true faith in our families, the end of Coronavirus Pandemic, true healing in our nation, as well as prayer for a spiritual and successful celebration of our parish centennial next year.

Because of the COVID-19 regulations to prevent the spread of virus, only few people are invited to participate in the event. Twenty two families will represent the whole parish to physically participate in recitation of the full rosary, with each family in one of 22 stations spread out along four streets surrounding our church: James Street, Lynwood Ave, Tyson Place and Rigi Ave. The procession will start in church immediately after the end of 11:30AM holy Mass and expected to end up around 2:00PM. During that time, all parishioners are welcome to spiritually join the event wherever you are.

Let us celebrate the patron feast of our parish “BLESSED SACRAMENT” the true present of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist: Body, Blood, and Divinity.
THE MOST HOLY TRINITY
First Reading: Exodus 34:4b-6, 8-9
Responsorial Psalm: Daniel 3:52, 53, 54, 55
Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 13: 11-13
Gospel Reading: John 3:16 - 18

Reflection: This is the Most Holy Trinity Sunday. “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.” In this greeting from today’s Second Reading, Paul is bringing forth the nature of God we believe in: Trinitarian God, one God in three persons, three persons in one God. As we delve throughout the Holy Scriptures both Old and New Testaments, we can see and experience the manifestation of one God in His three persons, the person of the Father, the person of the Son, and the person of the Holy Spirit. These three divine persons are not three Gods/gods but rather one God. Our Catholic faith is grounded in the teaching of Most Holy Trinity as we cement it in all simple and profound testimonies. We invoke the Most Holy Trinity in the famous prayer of the sign of the cross when we utter three persons of one God: In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. We use this formula in opening and closing our prayers. We use this formula in celebrating sacraments whether the sacrament of baptism, penance or matrimony. We use Trinitarian formula in all the blessings as we say, “I bless you in the Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Three persons of God are attributed to everything we are and have. The person of the Father is
associated with the work of creation, the person of the Son in the work of redemption, and the person of the Holy Spirit with the work of sanctification. Though this attribution, these three persons are working together jointly/together and not in separation because where the Father is, there the Son and the Holy Spirit are and the other way around. Knowing the role and the power of the Most Holy Trinity, we as Catholics always pray we great pride and reverence the prayer of:

“Glory be to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the
beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen!

Fr. Severine.

Recorded Mass for June 6/7
Blessed Sacrament Church is hosting a Covid 19 testing site on June 11 from 9:00 until 5:00 in the main parking lot behind the church. It is not a "drive through" testing site. People will be asked to park their cars and get out to get in line to be tested. There will be people directing and instructing where to go. It is highly recommended that everyone register prior to coming to save time in line. The website is  https://covid19.ongov.net/appointments/  to register.
Our Outdoor Masses were a success (pictures follow)! We will celebrate Weekend Masses outdoors in the Blessed Sacrament Church parking lot again this weekend and continue to follow the current guidelines.

As we move along, there may be a possibility of increasing amount of people attending the in-church Masses from 10 people to 25% of the church capacity. If the number of attendance to the in-church Masses is going to move from 10 people to 25% of the church capacity, the weekend Masses will NOT be in the parking lot at Blessed Sacrament but rather they will be in our church building with the following schedule: Saturdays 4:00P at St. Vincent and 5:00P at Blessed Sacrament. Sundays: 7:30A and 11:30A at Blessed Sacrament and 9:30A at St. Vincent (no 9:30A Mass at Blessed Sacrament during this time). Whether the weekend Mass is at the parking lot (drive-in) at Blessed Sacrament or in both of our churches, please note the following:

You are encouraged to make reservation for your attendance by calling Blessed Sacrament Rectory at 315.437.3394 during the hours of 9A – 4:00P Mondays – Fridays or e-mail at
bsc3127james@gmail.com to indicate which mass you will attend and how many people in your
reservation.

The above complete letter from Fr. Severine was emailed or sent to parishioners during the past week. Please check for additional details. YOU MAY VIEW SUNDAY MASSES AT Blessed Sacrament Syracuse or Recorded Mass.
We are grateful for your offertory for the month of May of $31,559.00. Parish Improvement collection was $1,050.00. Thank  you! Blessed Sacrament Church greatly  appreciates your donation, support and s acrifice.

Seven Resources to Bring the Faith Home:

Question for Children: When people love each other, how do they treat each other?

Question for Youth: The Trinity is celebrated today. How would you describe your relationship with God the Father? With Jesus? With the Spirit?

Question for Adults: If you were to encourage the members of your own parish to live as a “community of love,” which is how we define the Trinity, how would you advise them to live? Use St. Paul’s list of exhortations as your starting point.

Did Jesus suffer with George Floyd? The killing of George Floyd coupled with the killings of Breona Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery brings into horrible detail the following statements in the USCCBs Pastoral Letter, Open Wide Our Hearts, a pastoral letter against racism. Despite the great blessings of liberty that this country offers, we must admit the plain truth that for many of our fellow citizens, who have done nothing wrong, interactions with the police are often fraught with fear and even danger. The Pastoral letter later states: To press forward without fear also means cooperating with God’s grace by taking direct and deliberate steps for change. It means opening doorways where once only walls stood. As Bishop Lucia urged us in his most recent letter on George Floyd's death, ... the time to act is now.
