Cover Story: Boating bliss just a bay away in Baltimore
|
Rock Hall's position on the prime cruising grounds of Maryland's upper Chesapeake Bay has made it a staple to regional recreational boaters over the years. In a cruise of 18 nautical miles from here lies the charmed city of Baltimore, with its dazzling harbor.
Baltimore, like most Eastern Seaboard cities, flourished from trade and transport made possible only by the water. The Chesapeake Bay's channels leading to and from the Port of Baltimore have seen centuries of travel.
Today, those same channels are seeing less industry and more pleasure-seeking traffic. Residential high rises, thriving entertainment districts, world-class dining and top-of-the-line hotels dot the city's ever-changing shores – calling the names of boaters looking for a change in scenery to a more urban landscape. Here a few Baltimore spots worth a visit by boat:
-
Fell's Point, with its rich history and colonial charm, is a classy Baltimore destination for boaters. Visit the awe-inspiring Sagamore Pendry of Baltimore, along with the neighborhood's side street pubs and live entertainment venues.
-
Harbor East is a recent addition to Baltimore's waterfront community. The neighborhood, marked by gleaming glass towers and office blocks, boasts several exciting (and new) attractions. Treat yourself to a massage at the Four Seasons, dine exquisitely with a view at Bygone and shop blocks of specialty boutiques.
- Baltimore's Inner Harbor is packed with family fun entertainment. Stop by the National Aquarium or Maryland Science Center, climb to the Top of the World at Baltimore's World Trade Center, see the historic ships that include 1854's U.S.S. Constellation, dine at Harborplace and watch the O's play at nearby Camden Yards.
- Federal Hill, or "Fed Hill" for short, is a youthful waterfront neighborhood and entertainment district a stone's throw from the Inner Harbor. With several marinas, dozens of restaurants, lively nightlife scene and the historic Cross Street Market, this area named for the nearby War of 1812 defensive embankment is a popular pick for those looking into a fun night out.
Plan your next day or weekend trip to Baltimore, just a short cruise from the docks here at Haven Harbour Marina and Haven Harbour South.

Dockside Wi-Fi: How extenders can improve your wireless signal reception
|
We have received many compliments about the improved Wi-Fi networks at both Haven Harbour Marina and Haven Harbour South.
Wi-Fi on boats in marinas, however, can be tricky. One slip can be in optimal working condition, while the slip next door is not. If you are experiencing signal issues, we recommend trying a simple and inexpensive Wi-Fi extender. These devices will typically solve such boat-side Wi-Fi signal issues.

KEEP PETS FRONT OF MIND THIS SUMMER
We love our furry friends here at Haven Harbour. To that end, please keep a pet's wellbeing in mind this season by not leaving them in sweltering standing vehicles. If pets are seen in parked vehicles while on our properties, staff will be obligated to contact animal control and have them removed – it's the law!
