Episode 15, May 5, 2020
Hi everyone,

Welcome to Tony's Tap TV. Episode 15. Happy Cinco de Mayo! If you just joined us, check out the link below to all the past episodes that are now archived.

Let's start with a tribute to that tall elegant dancing man, the late Charles "Honi" Coles. I could say SO much about this gentleman. I met him in 1976 in Denver, Colorado......but more on this below.

Meanwhile, here I have a clip from my Tap Basics Instructional Video that is a bit more advanced. It's the first phrase of my double-time sequence that I often perform. All you advanced beginners and intermediate level students out there, check it out.

Speaking of students. One of my students Kathryn Fazio sent me a poem she wrote the other day, so I've included it below.

And at the very bottom, I've included a solo I performed at Tap City 2007.

So, hang in there everyone. Enjoy the footage, and try to enjoy some real springtime! Keep safe, keep healthy and keep TIME please!

ISee you in the funny papers.

Tony

Today's International Tap Dance Hall of Fame is a tribute to Charles "Honi" Coles. I met him in 1976. He came to Denver in a touring production of Bubbling Brown Sugar. My friend and mentor at the time Diane Montgomery and I called Honi and mentioned we were coming to the show and asked if we could meet him after the show. He suggested we have dinner afterwards! So we did, and he paid for it! What a great guy! PS, I met Mable Lee that night also!

Layaway 2020

There is an old woman behind me.
Sewing a handkerchief with my initials.
She was the one who made me break
Painted plates from Czechoslovakia
And fill the soup bowl up way too much.
She put expensive utensils on layaway so
What looked like a home, could be owned.
The house now contains a Listerine bottle
I clean incessantly because of a fatal virus.
I wash my hands with the past
Also the window curtains, shutters.

Now check out this link to the first phrase of my double-time sequence which is part of Routine Four extracted from my Tap Basics Video. Follow along! I'd like to once again thank my student, and friend in the footage Dan Bogart. Hey, where are you guy?
Finally, here is a solo I performed at Tap City in 2007 at the suggestion of Harold Cromer. I think it's appropriate for today's climate. I can't believe it was 17 years ago! It's called By Myself.
There are numerous instructional and performance products for purchase available now on-line through Vimeo. This is another way you can support the ATDF in this time of need.

This project was created in a "pay what you can" format, and if you like what you see and if you send us some do re mi, we will consider it a donation. No strings attached. On the other hand, if there's no money, then no problem. Just know that the ATDF appreciates any donation you CAN make large or small, especially now in this crazy new world.
