‌ Support Philmont's cultural heritage

rediscovering our history to grow the future together

2019 has definitely been a turning point for preserving Philmont's history. Looking around the village you will see there's not a street that doesn't have a major restoration of village homes and buildings taking place. Bolstered by community engagement stemming from the start of a Philmont Rising Working Group dedicated to preserving Philmont’s history and the Philmont Library's efforts to archive and create a Memory Project, we were encouraged the time was right to approach Preserve New York to give a helping hand with these community efforts. Fast forward several months encompassing meetings, identifying the need, a bid request, letters of support from the Village of Philmont and the Working Group, a Preserve New York award of $10,000 was awarded to PBInc to hire Jessie Ravage, a cultural historian, to take the next steps for a survey of over 400 historic buildings in the village. Now the really hard work starts – raising the remainder of the consultant fees of $9,500. We hope you will be encouraged enough to help out by making a donation to help us get this survey done!

We hope you will see the importance for this cultural survey. It will not only give the community a full documentation of every historical building, it will also lead to the community decision working together to evaluate if tax-credits for preservation could be helpful to property owners, improved affordable housing rentals and special programs for seniors aging in place by assisting with repairs to their homes.
