Vision:
Knowing we are One, we celebrate peace,
compassion, and equality for all.
Mission:
We empower people to live thriving spiritual lives.
From the Minister

Dear Friends,

What is racism and why are we here to dismantle it?

Let’s start with some general definitions.

Merriam-Webster defines “racism” as a belief that race is a fundamental determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.

Merriam-Webster defines “dismantle” as the act of disconnecting the pieces of something or destroying its ability to function.

And so, to “dismantle racism” is to eradicate the belief that a particular race is superior.

In our nation’s history, we have cultivated harmful systems and patterns that support the concept that white people are somehow superior to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color). Hence the term “white supremacy.”

One of our core values at Unity of Arlington is to honor diversity—meaning—we believe that all people are created with sacred worth. In a spirit of Unity, we embrace each person as an expression of God grounded in truth and love.

This does not mean, however, that we can’t harbor implicit biases that affect everything we do. Even with the best of intentions! This is why Ibram X. Kendi teaches that, “The opposite of ‘racist’ isn’t ‘not racist.’ It is antiracist.”

We have a lot to learn. And even more to unlearn. Either way, the path starts internally as we willingly take a fresh look at ourselves.

Just to be clear, the work of dismantling racism is spiritual work. And by work, I mean practice. Dismantling racism is a spiritual practice.

There is much for which to be hopeful. We are the ones.

In Love and Unity,
Rev. Anne Tabor

We all have a story – a collection of experiences we’ve had in our lives. Some of those experiences are positive, and some leave a lot to be desired.
Unfortunately, we often latch onto the challenging ones, making them the central narrative our subconscious mind uses to filter current and future events. Come and hear Lysa Allman-Baldwin, a highly sought-after motivational speaker, workshop facilitator, travel and feature writer, and the author of the book, I Cried. And People Loved Me Anyway, as she shares how recognizing that narrative—and giving up what no longer serves us—is key to reaching a higher level of consciousness.
Dismantling Racism ~ One Conversation at a Time
In keeping with our commitment to be a part of the solution, “Dismantling Racism ~ One Conversation at a Time” highlights the antiracism work Unity of Arlington will be offering beginning late February. There will be five Zoom sessions facilitated by Rev. Anne Tabor offered every other week.

This work is based on a model created by Unity minister, Rev. Wendy Craig-Purcell, and the work she is doing through The Antiracism Institute she founded.

It focuses on three key areas: raising racial awareness, increasing racial literacy, and taking action to create change. It draws from educators such as Dr. David Campt, director Ava DuVernay, and author Ibram X. Kendi, among others.

These discussion groups are meant for people who recognize that racism exists in our country and who want to explore racism from that perspective. Unlike many online offerings; however, this program is offered in real time and not recorded. This also creates a safe environment in which people can share more authentically.

The design is intended for two sessions to run concurrently—with different curriculum—and up to as many as 12 participants in each. After we’ve completed these sessions, we can discern how we may want to come together and move forward with future offerings.

Registration is now open (click the appropriate button below). Again, Rev. Anne will facilitate each session.

*Please make sure you can attend all five sessions.

Five Zoom sessions every other week as a Black Gathering
on Mondays, 7pm - 8:30pm:

#1 – February 22, #2 – March 8, #3 – March 22
#4 – April 5, #5 – April 19
Five Zoom sessions every other week as a White Gathering
on Wednesdays, 7pm - 8:30pm:

#1 – February 24, #2 – March 10, #3 – March 24
#4 – April 7, #5 – April 21
A note from Rev. Anne:
Given the very real and long-standing issue of racism in our country, I feel called to focus some of my energy on making things better. This is true for me as a minister and it’s true for our ministry at Unity of Arlington as well. While I am by no means an expert, I have taken much needed time to prayerfully discern where to start. This program is a first step… and hopefully there will be many more as we grow together in this direction. There is much to learn and I cannot do it alone. I believe the time to connect more directly and deeply is now.

FOR THE COMMON GOOD
Improve How Your Mask Protects You
Source: CDC.GOV,, Updated Feb. 10, 2021

Correct and consistent mask use is a critical step everyone can take to prevent getting and spreading COVID-19. Masks work best when everyone wears them, but not all masks provide the same protection. When choosing a mask, look at how well it fits, how well it filters the air, and how many layers it has.
Make sure your mask fits snugly against your face. Gaps can let air with respiratory droplets leak in and out around the edges of the mask.
Pick a mask with layers to keep your respiratory droplets in and others’ out. A mask with layers will stop more respiratory droplets getting inside your mask or escaping from your mask if you are sick.

UNITY'S FIVE BASIC PRINCIPLES

Principle #1:
There is only one Presence and one Power in the Universe and in my life, God the Good.

Principle #2:
Human beings have a spark of divinity within them, the Christ spirit within.
Their essence is of God, and therefore they are also inherently good.

Principle #3:
Human beings create their experiences by the activity of their thinking.
Everything in the manifest realm has its beginning in thought.

Principle #4:
Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God Mind and therefore brings forth wisdom, healing, prosperity, and everything good.

Principle #5:
Knowing and understanding the laws of life, also called Truth, are not enough.
A person must live the truth he or she knows.
CORE VALUES
Spirit-Led:
Centered in the awareness of God's presence, we turn within for divine guidance in
all we do.

Love:
Love is our True Nature. We express the harmonizing power of love to see good everywhere and in everybody. Love binds together the whole human family.

Diversity:
We believe that all people are created with sacred worth. In a spirit of Unity, we embrace each person as an expression of God grounded in truth and love.

Connection:
We live, love, and laugh from our Oneness with God. We honor our inter-connectedness with each other, with all life, and the earth.

Abundance:
God is our Infinite Source of Good. We gratefully demonstrate prosperity in all areas
of our lives. We wisely use our wealth of resources to serve our spiritual community and the world.

Service:
We cultivate enlightened leadership by practicing the teachings of Jesus the Christ through sacred service. It is a blessing to serve locally and globally.

Integrity:
We consciously choose to practice living our Core Values and Unity Principles rather than simply professing them. We choose to communicate from the heart with authenticity and deliver on our commitments with reliability.
