Duo Reunites for the LUM 50th Celebration
Friday, April 8 | 7 p.m. | Long Center | $50
A special singing duo is confirmed to perform at the LUM 50th Anniversary Celebration Onyx Uzomah & Derrick Willams-Bacon. Onyx and Derrick have reunited to perform just for you at the LUM 50th Anniversary Celebration. They will sing Wake Up Everybody (Whitehead/McFadden/Carstarphen) accompanied by Jeff Goodspeed on the piano and Larry Guentert on the drums.

Onyx & Derrick began performing together in 2008 through Purdue Musical Organizations. During her time as a Purdue student, Onyx was a member of Heart & Soul vocal ensemble, and Derrick was the group's director. In addition to their singing, Onyx is an academic advisor in the Purdue Honors College and Derrick is the Purdue Engineering K12 & Undergraduate program administrator. Derrick is also a member of the LUM Board of Directors representing Second Baptist Church.

Onyx & Derrick are a part of the program that also includes performances from the LUM Ecumenical Choir (directed by Eileen Weiss), LUM Children's Chorus, Linda Hicks and friends, and Briton Weise as well as accompaniment by Larry Guentert, Jim Brehm, Sharon McKnight, Sam Cody, Hunt Wiley, and Jeff Goodspeed.

Purdue Alpha Tau Omega – LUM Service Day
Alpha Tau Omega Deep Cleans Ray Ewry Center
This past Sunday, several members of the Gamma Omicron chapter of Alpha Tau Omega at Purdue participated in a LUM Service Day at the LUM Ray Ewry Center.
Purdue Alpha Tau Omega members spent the day deep cleaning the LUM Ray Ewry Center, home of the LUM Emergency Shelter and Youth Programs. They cleaned and organized the shelter kitchen and laundry room, cleaned more than 20 bunk beds and 40 mattresses, and cleaned appliances, bathrooms, showers, dining room chairs & tables, floors, ceiling vents, baseboards and more. {Pictured L to R are Andrew Cali, Connor Scholz, Matthew Brueckert, Leo Stuedemann, Matt Michaud, Tom Avery, Jake Benson, Sam Kalkstein, Donovan Simonton, Jack Armstrong, Pratham Agrawal, and Jackson Bitterolf.}

LUM Highlights from the Beginning to Present Day
The LUM 50th Anniversary Celebration is NEXT Friday! As we anticipate gathering together to celebrate the 50th anniversary of LUM becoming a recognized nonprofit in 1972, it is appropriate to remember and honor the historic LUM milestones from the very beginning to the present day.
1962 - Hope Chapel Presbyterian Church (pictured), led by the Rev. Peter Hanstra, established the Neighborhood Development Project; and youth programming started
1965 - Summer (LUM) Camp started
1966 - NDP Advisory Board created
1967 - Rev. Ron Elly was hired as 1st Executive Director
1972 - Lafayette Urban Ministry, Inc. was incorporated in Indiana
1976 - Good Samaritan Fund established
1978 – Rev. Kurt Kremlick served as Interim Executive Director
1978 - Rev. Jud Dolphin hired as 2nd Executive Director
1979 - Seed Newsletter #1 published
1980 - Jubilee Christmas started
1983 - Food Pantry started; Social Justice ministry started
1984 - Emergency Shelter started
1986 - Community Thanksgiving started
1987 - Ray Ewry Center opens at 525 N 4th Street, Lafayette, IN (office, shelter & youth programs)
1988 - Legislative advocacy started
1990 - Jo Johannsen served as Interim Executive Director
1990 - Joe Micon hired as 3rd Executive Director
1992 - Hunger Hike started with the merger of three separate fundraising events
1999 - After School Program started
2002 - Tax Assistance Program started
2004-08 - Mary Anderson served as Interim Executive Director while Joe Micon served in the Indiana General Assembly
2009 - Capital Campaign raised $2.78M
2009 - ID Clinic started
2010 - LUM Office building opened at 420 N 4th Street, Lafayette, IN (pictured)
2014 - Immigration Clinic started
2015 - Winter Warming Station started
2016 - Turkey Trot 5K Run started
2020 - Wes Tillett hired as 4th (and current) Executive Director
2021 - Second Food Pantry opened in West Lafayette, IN
