All Saints, All Month

THE DIOCESAN YOUTH DEPARMENT IS OFFERING a month-long series to help prepare to celebrate All Saints' Day. We will remember some of the people who loved, worked, fed others, wrote or did other special things for God, while remembering that we are all part of the great cloud of witnesses, living and dead, known and unknown.

In this week's video, Amy Campbell, diocesan children and family missioner, discusses the All Saints' offering and gives us a sneak peek of exciting activities, like Godly Play stories and a letter-writing club in which children will receive letters from historical saints! (Unlike the other activities, the letter-writing club requires a sign-up, available here.)

Project materials and ideas for formation offerings to your children and families can be used in a variety of ways and will be shared via Dropbox, Vimeo and in the Christian Formation in the Diocese of NC Facebook Group. If you have any questions, please be in touch with Amy Campbell. View the schedule of offerings.

2020 Election: Resources for the Civic Soul

AS THE NOVEMBER ELECTIONS DRAW NEAR, many resources are being offered from a number of sources to support civic calls as well as pastoral and spiritual support.
  • FORWARD MOVEMENT and The Episcopal Church Office of Government Relations are calling Episcopalians and all others to join in A Season of Prayer: For an Election, October 27 - November 4. A novena is an ancient tradition of nine days of devotional prayers, often with a specific intention. In this case, we pray for discernment in voting and for the well-being of our nation.
  • THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH AND THE 2020 ELECTION: The Office of Government Relations has created a comprehensive suite of resources for advocacy, the U.S. Election, and 2020 Census engagement. Central to election engagement are the "Vote Faithfully" resources built up over the course of several election cycles and in coalition with ecumenical partners. These resources are designed for use year-round, emphasizing messaging that is non-partisan and informed.
  • LIGHT, PRAY, LOVE: An offering from the Diocese of Indianapolis, and dioceses and churches are invited to use and adapt.

END-OF-LIFE WEBINAR: "The Work of our Body at the End (What is Happening to Us as We Are Dying?)"; Oct. 29, 7p.m. In the last installment of the end-of-life webinar series, "The Work of our Body at the End: What is Happening to Us as We Are Dying" will address two key issues: (1) the physiology of dying, that is, what is going on in/with the body in the process of dying and how is that likely to manifest? and (2) How can the family be helped to understand this process and what they are seeing and hearing as their loved one is dying? How can loved ones interpret what they see and experience in the dying process? What do they need to look for in this process? What are appropriate responses, for example, when the loved one says things like, "Go away." or "Leave me alone." The Rt. Rev. William Gregg will facilitate the conversation with panelists Dr. Terry Strand, an oncologist from Reidsville who has also worked with Hospice, and Katie Thompson, a nurse practitioner in the palliative care services at UNC Rex in Raleigh. There is no cost to attend; to take part,  register to participate via Zoom, or plan to view the simulcast via Facebook Live on the diocesan Facebook page.

DEEPENING FAITH AT HOME: Ongoing formation can - and hopefully is - happening no matter what is going on in the world. Even in this trying time, there are countless resources available to help you explore, discuss and deepen your faith. The Diocese of North Carolina has developed an " At-Home Worship and Formation" webpage to help you wade through the myriad offerings. With options for adults, children and families, there are lots of way to build your spiritual practices into your daily life.

PLEASE GIVE AS YOU CAN: Churches still have expenses related to worship spaces and ministries, and they need your continued help to keep it all going. As you are able, please continue to honor pledges or donate to your church. For those churches that do not have online options available, the Diocese has a giving option to help gather donations. By using the diocesan link, donors may designate their giving for a specific church, or they may donate to a general fund to be used to relieve financial stress as the Diocese designates to do so.

The bulletin board is a great way to share announcements, needs and offerings around the Diocese. To include an item on the bulletin board, email us with your notice. Please keep it short (100 words max.) and be sure to include contact information.
