Inside Out: What’s in a Name?
Greetings Outdoorsy Peeps! Welcome back to our journey! We are walking through some of the scripture and themes that will be explored at Kirchenwald, Nawakwa, HC Spirit and Wittle Farm this summer. Let’s dive right in. “Oh Boy!”

“Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am.[c] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:13-14

I am a big fan of the story of God’s calling Moses from the burning bush – probably because I wish my instructions from God were always delivered with this kind of clarity. There are a number of ways to dig into this particular story and campers at HC Spirit explore the use of names and reflect on what exactly is in a name. This story of introduction is a good one to think about as one looks toward the camping season. When you go to camp, you get to be whoever you want for a week. None of the trappings or expectations of home go with you to camp. What might it mean to introduce yourself for the first time to a new camp family? Think about how important it was for Moses to be able to tell the Israelites the name of the one who was sending him on this mission.
Discussion Starter – Do every use the name of someone you know in order to get special attention or favor? What about your name as a Christian, a disciple of Christ: What favor or attention is drawn to you when others know that you are a follower of Christ?
