FOR YOUR HEALTH
DID YOU KNOW that 1 in 3 adults have pre-diabetes? In Maryland, over 10 percent of the adult population has diabetes and an additional 34 percent are estimated to have pre-diabetes. Close to 26 percent of inpatients at Suburban Hospital are diabetic. Diabetes is the 6th leading cause of mortality in Maryland and its complications cost the State over $4.92 billion per year, and an additional $2 billion in lost productivity.* Early detection through screenings, annual exams, as well as proper diet and exercise go a long way to reduce morbidity and mortality and the direct and indirect costs of managing this serious illness.
