Dear Parents,
This week we practiced two safety drills. On Monday, the school resource offices from the Brookwood cluster helped us practice a lockdown drill. On Wednesday, we practiced a severe weather drill. This was a statewide drill. Students did a fantastic job! Thank you to all the parents that exercised their right to vote. There were record numbers of voters. We appreciate the support of the community and the vote for the continuation of eSPLOST. Thank you to all the parents that joined us for our second lunch and learn. If you did not get a chance to attend live, you can watch the video recording on our web page. Please join us Thursday, November 12 at 6:00 for our second School Council meeting. This meeting is open to all families. You can find the agenda on our webpage. There will be a question/answer session at the end. We hope to see you there. A Zoom link will be sent out via email Thursday morning. Our AR program is going strong. If your child has not taken an AR reading test yet, please encourage them to do so. You can take a test from home any time before 10:00 pm. Studies show the more students read the stronger students they will be. Have a great weekend. |

Thank you to those who participated in Reflections this year! Save the Date for the virtual Reflections Exhibition on SUNDAY DECEMBER 6 of all the entries from our Area. There will be a link sent out once it gets closer, but will be a great way to see the work you submitted and can be shared with parents, teachers, friends, and family.
Thank you to all of our parents, teachers and administrators who have already joined PTA this year. For those who haven't, we hope you'll join us soon! PTA supports our school, teachers and students throughout the year and does not require any volunteer time from its members. We cannot do what we do, without your support! You can join PTA and support our school for just $6 per year. If you are able to give a little more to our program, we would love for you to purchase a membership package for just $24. This package includes 4 PTA memberships, and a FREE surprise R.D. Head spirit gift!
As you may have heard, we are having an exciting yearbook this year, with submissions from parents making up the majority of the yearbook. So far, we have three challenges for submissions. Our August challenge: First day of school pics! This can be digital learning first day or in-school first day! Our September challenge: Visit a natural outdoor body of water (creek, stream, waterfall, river, lake, ocean, or sea) or outdoor water activity (water sprinkler, water balloons, swimming pool, water slide) October Yearbook Challenge: zoo, animal, sanctuary, farm, or pet care. (Alpaca farm, yellow river sanctuary, do something with your pet, Stone Mountain barnyard, visit a pet store or a pet shelter) If you would like to volunteer, please contact any PTA Executive Committee member, we would love to have you!

SUBSTITUTES NEEDED!
Have you ever thought about being a substitute teacher as a way to get more involved? Let me know if you are considering it, and I can get you the information you need to move forward. We love our subs at R.D. Head!
MEDIA CENTER
We are having a huge push for AR through the school. Kindergarten and 1st grade students who are reading an E level are able to take quizzes. The in-person students have been taught this skill from 1st grade and up, but we are asking for your support on this at home whether students are in-person or digital for our younger students. Also encouragement for your older students is helpful too! If parents or older siblings could help guide the younger students through the process, it would help. Once they get the hang of it.....they will fly! Your help is appreciated! Our students read almost 10 million words just in the month of October! Imagine if all students participated the month of November!
Here is the overall leader school wide and the top 3 readers on each grade level....not individual classes. So another challenge is to make the top 3 on your grade level!

Digital ParentsIf you are a digital parent with children putting books on hold, try to come on Fridays to pick up books. We can make other arrangements with advance notice. If you are not sure or unaware if your children have books on hold to pick up, have them log into the media catalog. If books are checked out, they will be listed under the checkout link on the column on the left and ready to pick up. If they are still on hold, they are not ready to pick up. Remember, holds are due by 4pm on Wednesdays for digital students. Pickup is on Friday 9-10:45 am and 1-2:15 pm. Beginning next Friday, 11/13, any books that have not been picked up for 2 weeks will be checked back in so students on waiting lists can have their turn.
