Happy Advent!
Advent is the beginning of the liturgical year in the Catholic Church. It is a time of preparation for the coming of Christ at Christmas. It begins 4 Sundays before Christmas and varies in length between 22 & 28 days.
Below is an Advent puzzle for your family to work on together. You have heard that the first purple candle is
Hope,
the second is
Peace
, the fourth is
Love
and the pink candle is
Joy
. This puzzle mentions the
Prophecy
Candle, the
Bethlehem
Candle, the
Shepherds
Candle and the
Angels
Candle:
- The Prophecy Candle (Hope) is the first candle lit. It reminds us of the Old Testament prophets who foretold Christ's birth and the hope for a savior.
- The Bethlehem Candle (Peace), the second candle lit, is symbolic of the Christ Child's cradle and the peace He would bring.
- The Shepherd's Candle (Joy) is the third candle which we light on the third Sunday in Advent. This pink candle typifies the act of sharing Christ and the joy He brings.
- The last purple candle is the Angels Candle (Love). It represents the messengers who announced the birth of the Messiah.
