Hi folks,
It's hard to believe that we're already wrapping up our term 1 exploratory classes and we're halfway through our first trimester. Time sure flies when you're having fun, right? We continue to work with our families and with local health agencies to ensure we make decisions that focus on health and safety for students and staff while trying to be reasonable and fair at the same time. Thanks again to our parent community for your overwhelming patience and support as we navigate some tricky situations. Several families have made generous contributions of food and other snacks this week and next week. We truly appreciate the kind gesture! Our staff members -- both in-person and remote -- are working tirelessly to create a positive school experience for students, so I'm thankful that so many of you have acknowledged their efforts.
Our students have really hit their stride as we enter the month of October. The daily routines and procedures seem to second nature at this point. Due to some inclement weather we had indoor lunch this week for only the third time this year, and students made the adjustment seamlessly. I'm really proud of their collective resilience.
6th and 7th grade exploratory classes
Monday marks the last day of 6th and 7th grade exploratory classes (aside from the Independent Science Research class). On Tuesday all 6th and 7th graders will move to the next class in their rotation. Since we have created cohorts for these classes, here is the rotation for where students go next:
Art --> Music (This is currently the transition for RLA students.)
Music --> Drama
Drama --> Literacy (Publishing w/ Purpose or Creative Writing)
Literacy --> Woodworking
Woodworking --> STEM (xdesign and Construction or Robotics)
STEM --> Art
Picture retakes/makeups
This Thursday is the day for picture retakes or redos. Any student who missed last month's pictures or was unhappy with the proofs that were sent home by Stuart Rodgers can have their pictures taken this Thursday, October 8th. In-person students will have their pictures taken between 2:30-3:30pm in tent #1 near the district office. RLA students will have their pictures taken from 3:50-4:30pm in tent #1. Please email Mrs. Gail if your child is in-person and you plan to have a retake so she knows to call them down to the tent on Thursday.
Upcoming roadwork on Walters
I was informed today that the Village of NB will be completing some work on Walters Avenue in the near future that will impact walkers and bike riders. There are two separate projects.
The first (and less intrusive) project will occur next week at the southwest corner of Waukegan and Walters. This should have little impact on our bikers/walkers.
The second (and more intrusive) project will run approximately 6 weeks from early-mid October to mid-late November. Nicor is replacing gas mains on Walters and will have sections of the sidewalk on the south side of the street torn up. They will complete one section at a time between St. Norbert and Waukegan Avenue. Fortunately there will be flaggers and barricades and temporary passageways that will allow our bikers and riders to pass through on their way to and from school. Please encourage extra caution for those students who walk or bike to school.
Enjoy the weekend...
Scott
