Principal's Message January 24th, 2020
Greetings SSCMS Parents,
Sandy Springs Middle School invites all parents to complete this year's Georgia Department of Education Parent Survey. The survey is a required component of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and is developed by the GaDOE Assessment and Accountability Division in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Public Health and Georgia State University. The survey contains 24 questions and responses are anonymous. Responses are submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education and are used to help determine the schools climate rating within the College and Career Ready Index (CCRPI). The survey will be available until Friday March 6 th  however I encourage you to complete it at your earliest convenience. The link to complete the survey can be found here:

  • 7th grade - Tuesday, January 28
  • 8th grade - Wednesday, January 29
  • 6th grade - Thursday, January 30
 
Device Agreements
  • If a student needs a paper copy of the Device User Agreement, they are available in the Media Center.
  • If a student returns a paper form, please hold on to the form for the student. The student should bring this to the Media Center on deployment day.
  • Attached you find the students who will receive a laptop. I will continue you to send updates.
 
Devices
Do not plan on using the laptop the day of deployment. Students will need to take home the devices and charge them. We will send out instructions on how to get started later.

Teacher & Staff SOUPer Bowl Luncheon
To celebrate this year's Super Bowl, the PTO Foundation is hosting a SOUP luncheon for the teachers and staff to warm up their winter. This year's SOUPer Bowl luncheon is scheduled for Friday, January 31, 2020 where we will provide delicious home-made soups from parents and guardians. If you would like to participate and bring in a crockpot of your favorite recipe, please sign up here .
Penny Wars Winners
Congrats are in order for our 7th Grade Penny Wars Champions! They played the game well with the perfect blend of bringing in pennies and sabotaging strategically!
Rankings:
1st Place 7th grade - negative 14,886 points
2nd Place 8th grade - negative 23,386 points
3rd Places 6th grade - negative 29,996 points
Our penny wars grand total was $1083.12! Monies donated by our students and families will be used to help fund our PTO Foundation Budget supporting student activites and sports along with teacher mini grants. THANK YOU!
Girls Soccer Tryouts
Girls Soccer tryouts will be held January 28 th  â€“ 30 th . Players should plan to attend all three days. Tryouts are open to all SSCMS girls (6 th , 7 th , and 8 th  grade). Students must have a completed physical on file. Physicals can be done at Piedmont Urgent Care on Abernathy Road for $25.00 or at Walgreens are CVS for about $50. Any questions about the team and tryouts can be sent to Coach Collinson at   collinsonL@fultonschools.org .
Track and Field Tryouts
Attention all 7th and 8th grade students interested in track! There will be a brief information meeting on Thursday, February 20th at 8:25 a.m. in the gym. We will have (optional) conditioning on Tues, February 25th and Thurs, February 27th until 5:45. Tryouts will be Monday, March 2nd-Thurs., March 5th until 6:00 p.m. Students need to attend all 4 days of tryouts with a completed physical and mandatory FCS athletic paperwork turned in to Ms. Shurack (E104) or Ms. Drohan (E117) PRIOR to tryouts.
8th Grade Science Fair

Intro To Art Class Application for 2020-2021
Calling all 7th Grade Artists. The Intro to Art 8th Grade Connections Course is designed for students interested in pursuing Art at the high school level. Throughout the course, students will be introduced to many aspects of visual art, including, but not limited to: Art as personal communication, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, design, aesthetics, careers, Art criticism and Art history. At the conclusion of Intro to Art, students will have acquired the foundation to continue into any Visual Art pathway at the high school level. Course qualifies for .5 High School Credit. This connections course is a full semester and requires application approval which can be accessed by clicking on the image below. Applications can also be picked up in the Rotunda or from Ms Linehan in the art room C111. Questions? Email Ms Linehan.
