A Place for Prayer and Reflection
Another element of the Be The Light Campus Master Plan was successfully completed with the help of the two alumni featured today, Mark Ciminello and Marty Hensel. They shared their time and talents to create a beautiful space that will be a place of prayer and reflection for years to come. When you visit your alma mater next, be sure to check out the work of Mark and Marty!

Ciminello’s Landscaping

Mark was gracious in adjusting his busy schedule to keep our construction process moving on time. The new Prayer and Reflection Garden on the interior of the school is a stunning reflection of the creative design work done by Mark. Visible from several aspects of the new Student Service Center, this update will host a lasting tribute to our Holy Family and be a nurturing place for students, faculty and alumni to enjoy.

Class of 1975
Hensel Hardscapes

The fantastic new hardscapes installed by Ciminello’s Landscaping will be a fixture for decades because of the great work done by Marty Hensel and his team. All of the concrete work includes new steps, patio area and a concrete base under the entirety of the pavers, creating the most stable foundation possible for our beautiful courtyard.
Stallion Notes
Carl Linke '66 recently completed his 4th book, no SHELTER for GUILT, due out next week. Carl is the author of three previous novels based in the south: The Secret of the Gullah Treasure, Haint Blue and Flagrant Three. He enjoys writing from his home office situated along a deep-water tidal creek on Lady’s Island in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Fun fact: He named his publishing company “Philip-Forrest” after Sister Philip and Forrest “Treeze” Sharrock -- two influential teachers from his days at SFD. In a past interview with Carl, he explained, "Sister Mary Philip and Coach Sharrock were two very special people that I admire to this day; two people to whom I owe a tremendous debt of thanks. My aim is to grow Philip-Forrest Publishing and make it worthy of the names it bears, not a simple task but definitely a worthwhile goal.” We think he has done just that!
Alumni Fr. Stash Dailey '00, Fr. David Young '96, Fr. Chris Tuttle '01, and Fr. Frank Brown '03 pulled together their resources and donated a new set of beautiful Stations of the Cross for the SFD Chapel.
Alumna Blair Blumenscheid '09, the Communications Manager for Storm-The Bowlers Company, is currently co-hosting a morning web show to keep bowlers connected during the pandemic. With a degree in Organizational Communications from OSU, added to the experiences she had as a member of the OSU Women's intercollegiate team, Blair was well prepared to excel at Storm, and is now making a name for herself in the bowling world!
Last week, DeSales was visited by Cecelia McAdams, known throughout the late sixties and early seventies as Sr. Cecelia. It was a walk down memory lane for Cecelia as she toured the new Student Service Center, looked through photos with Linda Volmer '69, and reconnected with areas of the school where she lived, worked and taught. If you are an alum of St. Francis DeSales High School and would like to schedule a tour of the new Student Service Center (formerly the convent), please reach out to Tim Jewett at jewett@desales.co.
Social Gatherings
Homecoming Festivities
Although Homecoming looked a little different this fall, we still enjoyed celebrating our Stallion Pride with the annual Traditions Mass (on both Thursday and Friday to accommodate our blended school schedule) and our Homecoming football game. When the Homecoming Court was announced during halftime of the game, we also welcomed back nine SFD alums who are the proud parents of members of the 2020 Court! Also at the game was alumna Virginia “Ginny” Suttner '64 (wearing her cheer sweater from 1964!) who was there to cheer on her grandson, Max.

Save the Date!

Because of the current constrictions we face today for hosting large events, we know it is best to transition our Friends in the Courtyard Wine Tasting and Auction to a reality production experience that you can enjoy in your own home. The live streaming event will provide a relaxing – and safe – venue for you to learn about and taste fine wines. Plus you'll have the opportunity to sample some Carfagna’s specialties and bid online for a chance to win amazing auction items.

Online bidding begins Thursday, November 5 at noon and is open until Saturday, November 7 at midnight. More details to come!
