Jesus said, “It is finished.”
- John 19:30 -
Last week, I was sitting in my car on the phone in a parking lot. I noticed a man wandering the parking lot searching for something. Occasionally, he would bend down, grab what caught his attention, inspect it, and continue. He was at a distance, so I did not immediately see what he was looking for. He would search like a child would search for a bug. He would look, walk toward a spot, and pick something up. As he came closer to me, I saw what he was looking for. Cigarettes. Check that, cigarette butts.
The spring winds were blowing the dirt and dust from a rough winter’s leftovers in the air. The muck covered the parking lot in dirt mixed with oil from leaky engines. Who would ever want to put anything in their mouth from this dirty pavement? Who would ever want to pick up anything so filthy?
Then it struck me. That is exactly what my Lord did for me, and for you. We are filthy. Covered with sin. But I have really good news for you today! Our Lord came to us, picked us up out of the grime and he became covered in dirt- your dirt, my dirt, and the dirt of the world.
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us.
- 2 Corinthians 5:21a -
Friday, we will see what it cost.
Sunday, we will celebrate the result.
See you at church at 6:30 Friday night as we reflect upon Jesus and call the Gospel writer himself, John who saw what Jesus did for you. Let us all come to the foot of the cross.

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7
