Week of February 1, 2021

Good Evening CCGS Families,

I hope your kids got to enjoy some of the snow this past Tuesday. If they didn't, then this weekend it sounds like they may get another chance! This week while visiting classrooms I saw third grade students working to find a reasonable answer by rounding. I always love walking into a room to find every student deeply focused on their book box books and saw lots of that this week! I also got to spend recess with a kindergarten class where we moved like robots, danced around the classroom, and finished off with some deep breathing and stretching. I even got to dress up like a cow and read Click Clack Moo, Cows That Type to a first grade class this week! Mrs. Anderson and I enjoyed visiting classrooms and hearing the 3rd quarter reading and math goals. Everyone in the building has a math goal of passing at least 5 Dreambox lessons each week, but our students need your support with this too! Please click on the picture below to see the resources available for you to help your student. Our Dreambox Leaderboard for January will be shared next week! As a school, we have already walked over 600 miles towards our 30,000 mile goal. Keep sending your miles in from home too!

This month our students learned about Martin Luther King Jr. and the freedoms he protested for. In the month of February, we will be celebrating and discussing Black History month. Our students will continue to learn about famous African Americans who have contributed to our society in the past and those that continue to do so. Our teachers will be using a variety of read aloud stories and morning meeting activities to discuss and teach equity and inclusivity of all individuals. We have four guiding words that we will use to teach these very important skills to our young learners.

Week 1: COMMUNITY
Week 2: LOVE
Week 3: COURAGE
Week 4: EMPATHY

Please add any January pictures you have taken to this album . I will be creating the January album this Sunday, so please get any photos in the album prior to that day. Thank you so much for sharing your at home pictures with us! Please upload any of your February photos to this album.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your family!

Mrs. Hamm

Congratulations to this student for being our Shout Out Winner and for following the 4 Cornerstones. He will get a chance to lead our school in the pledge of allegiance.
Congratulations to Ms. Zacok's classroom for being the Golden Platter winner of the week! They were following our four Cornerstones and get to have the trophy in their classroom for the week and a recess with me! I look forward to playing with them this next week.

Hi Circle Center Families!

I can't believe we are already halfway through 3rd Grade! We have learned so much since the beginning of the year. Our students are beginning to show mastery of their multiplication facts, which we have been working hard on all year. We are now working on estimation, rounding, and adding/subtracting 3-digit numbers. We are beginning to learn about citing text evidence, and using our RACE strategy to write amazing constructed responses for reading. We have been setting goals and working towards our goals each week. The students will be choosing a new quarterly goal for both math and reading to work on throughout 3rd quarter! The students love to share their progress, as well as the goals they have set with each other. We enjoy celebrating all the small wins we have throughout our days! We are looking forward to the last two quarters at CCGS before we head to YIS! Go Foxes!

  • This week all of our student's MAP reports were sent home to our in person students with an explanation of the report. Those who are learning from home will receive these in the mail.
  • Valentine's Day is approaching and our remote and face to face teachers are planning several fun and virtual ways to show kindness for others. Due to the COVID-19 guidelines of not having shared items, students will not be able to bring in gift bags or Valentines for their friends. Our PTO will be purchasing crafts for each classroom. If you would like to help out by sponsoring your child's classroom, please send a $10 donation to the PTO PayPal link.

  • As a school we have set a goal to walk 30,000 miles by the end of third quarter! We are teaming up together to practice goal setting as a school community while also helping us all stay healthy and active. Remote and face to face families are invited to participate with us! At home you can take a walk with your child, they can use a treadmill, or you can covert activity from a sport into steps. We are tracking Sunday through Saturday. Every 2,000 steps is equal to one mile. In P.E., steps are being estimated by the lesson and skill taking place. Mr. DeWitt and Ms. Penn are tracking these weekly. We are not asking for proof as this is a fun activity for all of us. It is also a great way to practice math skills. If your remote learner is walking or running at home, please email [email protected] at the end of the week with the total miles walked.
  • Please click on this link for information about programs that are offered at our local library.

  • If you or anyone in the household has symptoms, all students need to remain home until the family member is cleared. To continue to ensure the safety of all staff and students, it is imperative that guidelines are followed. If you are unsure of the guidelines, please contact nurse Dawn at [email protected] or myself at [email protected]. The quarantine requirements for school are a bit different than the CDC guidelines. The safety of all of our students and staff is my highest priority.

Check out some of the pictures from this week!
BPAC has designed a T-Shirt for all EL/DL students in our district. This effort was supported by generous donations from the district and cooperating sponsors. If your student is a remote learner and part of the ELL program, t-shirts can be picked up in the CCGS foyer. If your student attends face to face Mrs. Schmidt will get them delivered to classrooms.
Our students can participate in the Kane County Cougars reading contest. This is a great way to earn rewards for reading fun books! The contest runs through March 22nd. Your child's teacher will send this information through SeeSaw or Google Classroom if they haven't already.
